Teacher of Dance job summary

BOA Creative, Digital and Performing Arts Academy is one of the most successful state-funded, 14 to 19 academies in the country. We specialise in creative, digital and performing arts. The academy opened in 2011 and has 1010 students on roll (340 at KS4 and 680 at Post-16). Student results speak for themselves and are well above the national average. Our intake is 100% selective, based on aptitude within the specialism rather than academic ability. As a result, we are unique in our admissions.

Located in the centre of Birmingham and within the hub of the creative and digital industries in the West Midlands, we benefit from superb facilities for academic, vocational and extra-curricular activities. We are part of the BOA Group, a small multi-academy trust of three academies and The Old Rep theatre.

The Dance Pathway at BOA is a centre of artistic excellence, backed by some of the country’s leading creative enterprises including Motionhouse. Dance is offered as part of the performance pathway with Key Stage 4 students studying the BTEC Level 2 First Award in Performing Arts (Dance) and Post 16 students studying the BTEC National Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing Arts (Dance). Key Stage 4 students are also able to select GCSE Dance as one of their GCSE options.

We are seeking to appoint a well-qualified, confident and enthusiastic teacher to plan, prepare and deliver outstanding lessons in Dance. You will be joining a highly successful and dynamic department, with a sustained track record of excellent outcomes. This role is suitable for an NQT or an experienced Dance teacher. A full induction package and CPD opportunities are offered to help develop your teaching practice.

The academy is looking for someone who has:
• Qualified teacher status and a degree
• A strong track record as an outstanding teacher of Dance
• A passion for Dance which is evident in their day to day classroom practice
• The ability to work in collaboration with other members of staff to develop and manage projects
• Exceptional personal organisation and time management skills
• The ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing
• The ability to guide students’ academic, personal and professional development, as a tutor, in accordance with the academy’s guidelines and procedures
• An understanding of the key national and educational policies and issues
• The ability to inspire high achievement in young people from all backgrounds
• Presence, dynamism, a good sense of humour and approachability
• An excellent record of attendance and punctuality

In return, you can expect to work in a creative and collaborative environment with colleagues and students who are engaged, committed and driven. Our students are our greatest asset and student behaviour is exceptional. If you share the Academy’s vision and ambitions, possess a strong desire to work within an ethos of creative collaboration and partnership and want to have a positive impact on young people, families and the community then we would be delighted to hear from you.

The Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people/vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced CRB check.
