King Ecgbert School
King Ecgbert School is a highly successful school at the heart of Mercia Learning Trust. We pride ourselves on delivering an exceptional quality of education to learners from all backgrounds aged 11-18.
Our school is exceptionally strong - rated outstanding by Ofsted and has academic results that are consistently ‘well above average’.
This is a truly comprehensive school serving both disadvantaged and highly affluent communities. We are committed to providing outstanding education for all in a safe, happy and positive learning environment.
The role
We are seeking a highly skilled and talented teacher of design and technology (including food and nutrition to GCSE level) to join our team on a maternity cover. Passionate about teaching design and technology, with an innovative approach, you will share our desire to drive outcomes and ensure we offer the best available opportunities for pupils.
The design and technology department offers access to specialist workshops, laser cutters, 3D printers, and industry-standard CAD and CAM software. Students regularly enter national design challenges and have achieved recognition for sustainable product design and engineering innovation. King Ecgbert School has recently been named as a regional design and technology hub school, with the head of technology being appointed as regional design and technology leader. As a hub school, King Ecgbert School will play a key part in championing high-quality design and technology education, supporting teachers, and strengthening the subject locally and nationally. There are strong foundations already built within the school community and the successful candidate would be in a position to support this further.
This role may include some PSHCE teaching (this subject is called L@kes at King Ecgbert School).
We are ambitious for all, which is reflected in our academically rigorous curriculum.
The candidate
The successful candidate will be knowledgeable and committed to the role and able to support the team in the delivery of design and technology. With proven digital and practical skills, you will have the ability to develop innovation, technical skill and problem-solving ability at all key stages.

King Ecgbert School is a large 11-18 secondary school of roughly 1450 students, including a sixth form of around 380 students.
Our school is situated in Dore in the south-west of Sheffield, close to the Peak District. We serve a vibrant and diverse catchment, stretching from the very edge of the city to the very centre, following the Abbeydale corridor; we are a truly comprehensive school.
King Ecgbert School has a long held reputation for excellence in Sheffield, and as headteacher my role is to be the custodian who protects what has long been a wonderful place to be educated.
In October 2024, our school was judged by Ofsted to be outstanding in all areas of the report, highlighting the supportive and inclusive environment where all pupils, including those with SEND, achieve exceptionally well.
Our 'ERA' values of academic excellence, showing respect and having high aspirations shape all that we do.
We see our purpose being far more than giving students knowledge, understanding and qualifications; but to help them develop into fine young adults who are happy, confident and able to make a positive difference to world around them when they leave.
