Teacher of Design and Technology (STEM) job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for someone to join the new and emerging Technology Faculty delivering Design Technology and STEM to the young people of Catterick.
If you are an exceptional and inspirational Design and Technology and STEM teacher who would be able to add expertise to our team of teachers then we would love to hear from you. We are looking for a person with drive and personal ambition who will inspire and enthuse our pupils and instil in them a love for the subject and a desire to learn. The role will require an individual who is creative, not afraid to think outside the box, with the ability to demonstrate resilience and experience of delivering innovative teaching methods to achieve improved academic outcomes.
At Risedale School, the Design Technology Department is part of the Technology Faculty that includes art, computer science, STEM and vocational subjects. It is a rapidly expanding team, committed to excellence in teaching. We pride ourselves on putting the pupils at the centre of all we do, from creating an engaging, positive, welcoming environment to exploring cutting edge pedagogy. As part of the developing STEM offering at Risedale, we would also expect the candidate to undertake some KS3 science teaching.
The resources and rooms of the department are superb, having had a major refit just 7 years ago. A suite of rooms contains a computer suite with cloud storage, three 3D printers, a large bed laser cutter, two classrooms with workshops attached, including a wide range of wood, metal, textiles and plastic working facilities, an office and a food technology room which has been completely refitted over the last year.
At KS4 pupils can choose Design and Technology/Food Preparation and Nutrition GCSE through AQA, and a VCERT Level 1/2 in Engineering from NCFE. At KS3 pupils follow a project-based approach with time spent across Design and Technology and Food. The school is committed to a wide and varied curriculum allowing a generous proportion of the timetable for practical subjects.
We are looking to appoint a forward-thinking, innovative and creative specialist. The successful candidate will be open to new ideas and committed to the philosophy of the school and ready to continue making Design and Technology a popular and successful subject at both KS3 and KS4 and helping to build further collaboration between STEM subjects.
The successful candidate will be open to new ideas and committed to the philosophy of the team. The profession requires resilience, hard work, adaptability and a sense of humour. The school offers all employees bespoke training and support; a highly cohesive and supportive staff team; outstanding CPD including up to date individualised action research; the opportunity to develop skills and interest through extra-curricular clubs and a chance to join Risedale at a very important point in the school’s development.
