QEGSMAT are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic Teacher of Design & Technology to join our hardworking team at the City of Derby Academy (CODA).
The Design & Innovation faculty delivers a range of Level 1 and 2 technical and vocational subjects with a high uptake at Key Stage 4, providing our students with meaningful career pathways linked to the local labour market. The department has state of the art resources including 3 ICT suites, 3D printers, a large format laser cutter, and CNC routers/lathes/mills. Subjects taught at Key Stage 4 include Design & Technology, Food & Cookery, Creative iMedia, Textiles, Business Studies, Engineering and Construction.
We serve a very diverse community with over 30 home languages. The school’s vision is “improving the life chances of all students”. Moreover, we continually strive to develop our students’ character through our core values of Respectful, Responsible and Ready to Achieve, which underpin everything we do, every day.
Our most recent Ofsted inspection (March 2024) recognised our strengths and sustained journey of improvement, our caring ethos, and the strong relationships that exist between our respectful, polite and loyal students and our staff (who overwhelmingly enjoy working at CODA and whose well-being and workload are prioritised by leaders).

At the City of Derby Academy, we believe that academic outcomes are important and our expectation is that we will achieve national progress standards. However, we do not measure the success of our students by their examination results alone. Students access a balanced curriculum and we continually strive to develop characteristics such as self-confidence, self-belief and self-esteem so our students are fully prepared for life in modern Britain.
We believe that when the school, parents/carers and students share high expectations every child will achieve great things. This includes having an excellent attitude centred on respect, high standards of appearance, good manners, full attendance and punctuality.
