Teacher of Design Technology – Textiles Specialist

Sir Christopher Hatton Academy, Wellingborough, Northants

Main Pay Range / Upper Pay Range

Full time

Required for September 2026

If inspiring young designers through creativity, craft and hands‑on innovation excites you, this role offers the perfect place to do it — empowering you to guide students as they experiment, problem‑solve and bring their ideas to life.

About the Role

This role offers an exciting opportunity to deliver creative, practical textiles lessons that inspire learners to develop strong technical skills, confidence, and curiosity. By guiding projects, demonstrating safe and effective use of textiles equipment, and encouraging experimentation with materials and techniques, you will support students in bringing their textile ideas to life. Through your teaching, learners will gain a deeper understanding of how textiles design influences the products we use and the world around us.

Key priorities for the role include:

  • Opportunity to teach across a range of DT specialisms depending on experience
  • Responsible for delivering engaging practical and theoretical lessons
  • Supporting students to develop technical skills, creativity and problem-solving ability
  • Contributing to the development of the DT curriculum and departmental resources
  • Supporting students in assessments and examination preparation

About the Department

You will work in a collaborative and supportive Design and Technology department which embraces new technologies and evolving design practices. Staff in the team work closely together to share ideas, develop resources and support one another. The curriculum is designed to develop creativity, practical skills and real-world problem solving. There is a strong emphasis on developing resilience, curiosity and independence in students, who engage with a range of materials, processes and emerging technologies.

Colleague Statement:

“Design and Technology stands out because of the enthusiasm our students bring to each specialism and the way new technologies shape our work. As a team we collaborate, share ideas and continually develop our practice.”

A. Gray, Head of Design & Technology
