Teacher of Design & Technology with Mathematics as a second specialism job summary
Are you an enthusiastic and inspiring Design and Technology Teacher who would like to come and join our exceptional Design & Technology Faculty? If so we would love to hear from you, especially if you would be able to offer teaching mathematics as a second specialism. We would welcome applications from ECTs to those with experience and will favour those with experience of Product Design as a whole, to include, but not be limited to, Resistant Materials, Graphics, Electronics and Systems & Control.
Romsey is a national high performing school that is proud to offer its students the opportunity for a broad, balanced and measured curriculum, tailored to the needs of each individual. As such, the Design & Technology faculty is an extremely popular subject area that is studied by students at key stage 4. The school has recently upgraded its workshop facilities to include: renovated workshops; a new laser cutter; 3D printer; and digital sewing machines. We are looking to expand further, particularly in the field of Electronics, Systems & Control.
The successful candidate will teach all age ranges and will be split between the Design & Technology and Mathematics departments at the school. We will invest in your professional development and learning during your time with us. This will include Subject Knowledge development in any areas that you teach that you would like to work on. As a member of the school staff you will have access to our staff benefits programme, which includes the opportunity to use our onsite nursery.
Design and Technology is a very successful department that consistently exceeds national expectations at KS4. We are looking for a teacher who:
Has a passion for product design
Has excellent subject knowledge and strong teaching skills
Has a track record of raising achievement in the field of product design
Has a commitment to inclusive education
Will build positive relationships with all learners
Will work effectively within a team context
Mathematics is a leading department within the school and members of the team work closely to support a number of schools, both at the primary and secondary education level. With a robust pupil premium intervention team, slightly smaller class sizes and our links with the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics (NCETM), pupil performance has been consistently excellent at both key stages for a number of years. In 2019, the last year to have external examinations, 80% attained at least a grade 4 at GCSE level, 61% attained at least a grade 5 and 27% attained at least a grade 7, all significantly above national average.
Staff in both departments play a wider role in the school and community and have been instrumental in the School Fair, Ski Trip, F1 for Schools programme, Enterprise Project, Duke of Edinburgh Award and our Romsey to Kenya project, as well as after school clinics, revision workshops and teaching of our IGCSE Further Maths course.
The Romsey School is a high attaining and oversubscribed school, committed to high quality inclusive education.
