Teacher of English job summary
We seek to appoint a Teacher of English to join our team at Manor Church of England Academy. This post is permanent, working 0.8 FTE.
The English department at Manor CE Academy is a dedicated, creative and highly successful team of 11 subject specialists. The department occupies seven full sized classrooms plus seminar rooms for smaller groups, all equipped with PCs, projectors and visualisers. We share a workroom, which becomes a place for the team to congregate during breaks, fostering an extremely supportive and friendly atmosphere. All of the team are engaged in research-led development projects to collaboratively improve our practice, and our culture of sharing ideas and strategies leads to innovative and dynamic teaching across the year groups.
In Key Stage 3, all students follow a varied English curriculum, balancing different skills, genres and eras. Year 9 is our GCSE preparation year, in which skills for the Key Stage 4 curriculum are introduced, then all students study both Eduqas English Language and AQA English Literature GCSE courses in Years 10 and 11. As a team we are looking to continually deepen our understanding of the new GCSEs and to improve our delivery of content through sharing best practice, not least by drawing on the expertise of AQA examiners within the department. Our curriculum is carefully structured and well-resourced, yet often allows staff freedom to follow their passions and preferences and seeks to foster a love of the subject in all learners. We make full and creative use of online resources and students’ iPads to enhance their learning.

The main focus of the Subject Teacher's role is fostering the learning and progress of the pupils in their care. This involves being an effective teacher of pupils as well as of the subject. Quality of preparation, resourcing, planning, subject expertise, teaching skill, pace, challenge, proactive classroom management, effective marking and assessment, high expectations, and positive personal relationships are all central to providing the conditions within which pupils' personal skills, abilities, understanding, learning and progress can be developed.
