Inspire readers. Develop confident communicators. Open doors through English.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the English team at Q3 Academy Tipton, following the promotion of the current postholder.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, ambitious and talented Teacher of English who shares our belief that excellent teaching of English can transform young people's lives.

English sits at the heart of a young person's education. Through great English teaching, students develop the confidence to communicate, the ability to think critically and the literacy they need to access opportunities across the curriculum and beyond school.

We want someone who will share our high expectations and help us continue to push for excellence in English, ensuring that students of all starting points are challenged to achieve their very best.

Want to make a difference to young people?

At Q3 Academy Tipton, we aim to support and develop young people who:

  • are enthusiastic learners and achieve incredible things;
  • live life to the full in pursuit of what is good, right and true;
  • lead happy, confident and safe lives;
  • are unstoppable in the world of work and within their families and communities.

We achieve this by ensuring students know more, do more and achieve more.

Our students uphold our values of kindness, ambition, resilience and respect. As a community, we challenge, check and cheer achievements and standards, while ensuring that students, staff, families and our wider community know that they matter and that we care about one another unreservedly.

Why English at Q3 Academy Tipton?

We want every student to leave us able to read confidently, write effectively, communicate articulately and engage critically with the world around them.

Our English teachers have the opportunity to inspire young people through rich texts, powerful ideas, language and literature while ensuring students develop the knowledge and skills required for examination success and their future lives.

We are looking for a colleague who will:

  • inspire students to develop a genuine appreciation of English language and literature;
  • establish ambitious expectations for reading, writing, vocabulary and spoken communication;
  • secure excellent progress and outcomes for students;
  • provide appropriate challenge for students of all starting points;
  • develop the confidence and literacy of students who find English more challenging;
  • contribute to high-quality curriculum thinking, shared planning and professional development;
  • promote reading and literacy as fundamental components of students' success across the Academy.

Whether you are an experienced teacher looking for your next opportunity or an excellent early career teacher beginning your career, we would be delighted to hear from you.

The role

Reporting to the Head of Department and Senior Line Manager, the successful candidate will join a high-performing curriculum area focused on securing strong progress for every learner. The role involves delivering well-sequenced, appropriately challenging teaching that responds effectively to students' needs.

You will:

  • plan, prepare and deliver high-quality English lessons in accordance with the agreed curriculum;
  • use evidence-informed teaching approaches to ensure purposeful and challenging learning;
  • use assessment intelligently to identify gaps, inform teaching and improve outcomes;
  • adapt teaching effectively for students with different starting points, including those with SEND, disadvantaged students and students with additional barriers to learning;
  • create a positive learning environment underpinned by excellent relationships, high expectations and strong behaviour for learning;
  • contribute to curriculum development, shared planning and professional dialogue within the English department;
  • use technology effectively where it adds value to teaching, learning and accessibility;
  • participate positively in the Academy's professional development and quality assurance programmes;
  • contribute fully to the wider life of the department and Academy.

These expectations reflect the responsibilities set out in the Academy's Job Description, including curriculum delivery, assessment, inclusion, behaviour and professional development.

  • a good honours degree;
  • strong subject knowledge and enthusiasm for English;
  • high expectations for every student's achievement and behaviour;
  • the ability to plan and adapt learning for students with different starting points;
  • an understanding of how assessment can be used effectively to raise standards;
  • a commitment to inclusion and removing barriers to achievement;
  • excellent communication skills and the ability to contribute positively to a team;
  • a commitment to your own professional development and the continued improvement of the Academy.

The Academy's person specification places particular emphasis on effective communication, inclusive practice, understanding how students learn and a commitment to high standards for all.
