Aldercar High School is seeking an experienced, effective and dedicated Teacher of English to join our team on a fixed-term contract. This is an exciting opportunity for an accomplished classroom practitioner to make a positive impact on students’ progress, achievement and enjoyment of English.

About the Role
We are looking for an experienced teacher with a strong track record of effective classroom practice who can deliver engaging, challenging and well-structured English lessons across KS3 and KS4.
You will:
- Plan and deliver high-quality, inclusive English lessons that engage and challenge students
- Demonstrate excellent subject knowledge and a secure understanding of the English curriculum
- Use assessment effectively to identify gaps, drive progress and raise achievement
- Maintain high expectations of behaviour, engagement and academic achievement
- Support students to develop their confidence, literacy and communication skills
- Contribute positively to the continued development of the English curriculum
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to support improved outcomes for students
- Support whole-school priorities, including improving attendance, culture and outcomes
- Participate in key school events, including Parents’ Evenings and Open Evenings
- Build positive and professional relationships with students, families and colleagues
We are particularly interested in appointing someone who can bring experience, confidence and proven classroom practice to the role and who is ready to make an immediate and positive contribution to the department.
Pastoral Responsibilities
As a Form Tutor, you will also play an important role in supporting students’ personal development and wellbeing. You will:
- Monitor students’ progress, attendance and behaviour
- Deliver elements of the PSHE programme
- Work closely with the Student Support team
- Build strong and supportive relationships with students and their families
We are seeking an experienced and effective English teacher who:
- Has a proven track record of high-quality teaching
- Demonstrates strong English subject knowledge and effective classroom practice
- Has experience of teaching English across KS3 and KS4
- Has high expectations for all students and is committed to improving outcomes
- Uses assessment and data effectively to inform teaching and support progress
- Can engage, motivate and challenge students of different abilities
- Builds positive and respectful relationships with students, colleagues and families
- Is organised, adaptable and able to contribute effectively as part of a team
- Champions inclusion and is committed to supporting all learners, including those with SEND and those facing disadvantage
Qualifications
- Relevant degree
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
