We are looking for a person who:
Has a real passion for English.
Can deliver the English curriculum across KS3 and KS4 to all ability levels (the ability and desire to teach KS5 would be most welcome).
Can build positive and productive working relationships with staff, pupils and parents.
Can deliver a creative and innovative approach to teaching and is able to deliver outstanding teaching and learning (or potential to do so).
Can implement online learning tools within lessons where necessary to meet the diverse needs of learners.
Show organisation and the ability to complete necessary assessment documentation and information needed for record keeping.
Has a proven track record of success as a teacher, as exemplified by good examination results; for ECTs evidence should consist of an outstanding placement reference, particularly about the standard of teaching and learning.
Is committed to making learning a challenging, exciting and worthwhile activity for our youngsters.
Enjoys working with young people, has high expectations and can unlock potential.
Is ambitious and will welcome professional development opportunities.
Shows commitment, enthusiasm, and flexibility in their approach to the subject.
Has the ability to stay positive and meet deadlines even when working under pressure.
Has a good sense of humour!

We have an excellent opportunity for an inspirational, enthusiastic, and committed teacher of English to join us from January 2027 (ideally – but an Easter start date will be considered). This is permanent part-time post (0.4 FTE) due to the current post holder retiring at Christmas and is suitable for both experienced teachers and ECTs. The aptitude to demonstrate excellent subject knowledge and to consistently teach stimulating and innovative lessons is essential.
We are looking for someone who is highly motivated who wants to make a difference to the education of our students and who has the drive and enthusiasm to provide a high quality and challenging learning experience for our students, whilst also ensuring a supportive and encouraging environment.

The School
Haberdashers' Abraham Darby is a coeducational secondary school with a sixth form, educating around 1,058 pupils aged 11–18 in Madeley, Telford. The school converted to academy status in 2009 and is sponsored by the Worshipful Company of Haberdashers. It occupies a purpose-built, modern school building and serves a community with well-above-average levels of socio-economic disadvantage — 45% of pupils are eligible for free school meals, against a national average of 28.9% — alongside a broadly average proportion of pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).
The school is anchored by three clear values — Aspiration, Respect and Excellence (ARE) — and a vision of "Success for All" that runs through its curriculum, pastoral system and extra-curricular offer. It has a genuinely thriving extra-curricular programme, with particular strength and a track record of external success in music (including its Abraham Darby Showband), rugby, and a fast-growing netball programme, alongside Duke of Edinburgh's Award, cadets and a strong sixth-form enrichment offer. The school also benefits from a growing alumni network who return to support current pupils through mentoring, careers talks and work experience.
