The Priory Learning Trust (Somerset Business Award winner for Employer of the Year) is looking to recruit a Teacher of English to work at The King Alfred School - An Academy, rated 'Good' by Ofsted November 2022. A school at the heart of the community, where we believe it is our role to develop the next generation into successful citizens.

We are seeking a passionate and dynamic English Teacher to join our thriving secondary school community. This is your chance to spark curiosity, challenge students to think critically, and nurture a lifelong love for language and literature. This is a permanent position with the possibility of relocation to another school within the Trust.

In this role, you will craft engaging lessons that capture students’ interest, set ambitious goals for their progress, and create a positive classroom culture where every learner feels supported to achieve their best. You will tailor your teaching to meet the diverse needs of individuals, helping each student find their voice and grow in confidence.

As part of this role, you will:

  • Identify clear learning and teaching objectives and specifying how they will be taught and assessed.
  • Set tasks which challenge students and ensure a high level of interest.
  • Set high expectations for students’ behaviour, establishing and maintaining a good standard of discipline through well-focused teaching and through positive and productive relationships.
  • Identify the needs of individuals and groups within the class, taking note of individual education plans and the requirements of the Code of Practice, tailoring the teaching to take account of their identified needs.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status.
  • Passion for a specialist subject.
  • Relevant teaching experience in KS3 and KS4. (KS5 would be desired but not essential)

This role involves working with children on a daily basis and is therefore in regulated activity.
