Start Date: January 2027
Rickmansworth School is seeking a passionate and dedicated English Teacher to join our vibrant and supportive team. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic teacher to inspire and engage students, helping them to develop a strong understanding of English and achieve their full potential. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, with the potential to teach at Key Stage 5 and ideally have a second subject specialism such as Politics, Religious Studies or Geography. There is also potential for a whole-school Personal Development Lead TLR for the right candidate, providing an opportunity to contribute to the wider personal development of students across the School (job description for the TLR post available upon request, you will be asked to complete relevant tasks additionally for this role on the day). You will contribute to the continued success of the English Department and the wider School. If you are committed to delivering engaging and challenging lessons and creating an inspiring learning environment, we would be delighted to hear from you.
The School’s admissions criteria gives preference to staff members’ children (as there is a demonstrable skill shortage for this post, the successful candidate could apply for a priority admission place for their own child).
About the English Department
Our English Department is committed to delivering innovative, inspiring, and academically rigorous lessons, with a strong focus on outstanding teaching and learning. We centre our approach around the needs of the students, ensuring lessons are fast-paced, challenging, and memorable.
We continually review and adapt our curriculum, from KS3 to KS5, ensuring it aligns with the latest GCSE and A Level reforms and equips students with valuable, transferable skills. At KS3, we offer a diverse range of texts from different eras and cultures, fostering independent, curious learners who are prepared for future academic success.
Our GCSE and A Level results are consistently excellent. In 2026 47% of our students secured a grade 7 and above in GCSE English Literature and 45% in GCSE English Language; 12% of these secured a grade 9 and 95% of our students achieved grades 9-4. At A Level, 36% of our students achieve A and A*s with 100% achieving above a C. A
Besides English, Film Studies has flourished in recent years. Success at A Level led to the introduction of a highly successful GCSE, blending analytical skills with creative expression, showcased at our annual awards evening. Together with English Literature and Language, these subjects provide a rich and varied academic experience for students.
Applications from ECT’s are welcome.
