Teacher of Geography (maternity cover) job summary

Why This Role Matters

You will ensure curriculum continuity and maintain academic momentum across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 throughout the maternity cover period. By delivering structured, evidence-informed lessons, you will help students interpret geographical data and build core analytical skills. Your work will directly support departmental stability and pupil progress.

What You’ll Bring
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a strong subject background in Geography.

  • Skill in delivering sequence-driven lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.

  • Practical experience embedding mapwork, GIS analysis, and fieldwork preparation into teaching.

  • Commitment to collaborative planning, shared resources, and workload-sensitive moderation.

  • High expectations for conduct combined with clear, consistent classroom routines.

The School & Trust Context

Our geography department operates within an aligned autonomy framework, balancing high academic standards with sensible workload boundaries. Teachers benefit from shared scheme-of-work repositories and research-informed professional development through the River Learning Trust network. Rather than spending time reinventing core materials, colleagues work together on shared curriculum refinement and joint moderation.

As part of River Learning Trust, you will benefit from structured CPLD and full recognition of continuous public sector service. All colleagues also receive access to a 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme and government-backed pension schemes. We offer a supportive environment grounded in relational trust, where staff expertise is respected and workload impact is carefully considered.
