What skills and experience we're looking for

Our History Department are looking for a highly motivated and dedicated History Teacher with a love of education to join the team to encourage all pupils to make progress in this subject no matter their ability.

History is the most popular option at Cove School and this year we are expanding our curriculum to also include citizenship with this subject discipline. We have a hard working and committed staff whom we value and support. You'll have the chance to develop your skills with a comprehensive and varied Professional Studies Programme. Cove School has a ‘vibrant and thriving CPD programme’ (Ofsted 2018)

This is a unique opportunity for a collaborative and motivated individual who wants to take the next step in their teaching career by joining a great history and humanities team, and work closely with other exceptional middle leaders.

We are looking to appoint a colleague who will:

  • Engage, enthuse, motivate and challenge pupils in order for them to excel academically
  • Have relentlessly high expectations of themselves and pupils
  • Have excellent subject knowledge
  • Be willing to teach across the full age range of pupils; year 7 to year 11
  • Enhance the quality of teaching and learning in the Department and wider school through sharing resources and good practice, lesson observation, collaborative teaching, mentoring and active participation in continuing professional studies programme
  • Make a positive contribution to the efficient running of the Department, including, setting and marking examinations, attending departmental meetings and undertaking administrative and other tasks as delegated by the Curriculum Leader
  • Actively safeguard and promote the welfare of children
  • Support the schools’ aims and objectives for teaching and learning
  • Adhere to and promote all school policies and procedures

Person Specification:

  • Good level degree in a directly related subject (desirable)
  • Thorough knowledge of the (13-16) subject Curriculum (GCSE)
  • Recognised teaching qualification, such as a PGCE, or equivalent experience
  • Awareness of Safeguarding requirements and good practice
  • Good level of IT literacy
  • Be capable of delivering inspirational and informative lessons to the full age and ability range of pupils at the school
  • Be able to demonstrate a positive and authoritative rapport with pupils
  • Excellent and effective classroom management skills
  • Have excellent communication skills to enable effective dialogue with pupils, parents, staff and visitors
  • Be organised and self-motivated, with a proven record for meeting targets and deadlines
