Are you a teacher who is passionate about bringing history to life for students?

Do you have the confidence and commitment to inspire and engage young minds in the study of the past?

If so, Thomas Deacon Academy wants you!

Your role:

As a Teacher of History, you will deliver well-planned lessons that secure the progress of all learners. You will teach and implement the history curriculum, ensuring students achieve their individual potential and develop the necessary knowledge, skills, and character to thrive as global citizens. Your responsibilities include planning and preparing courses, assessing student work, providing feedback, and maintaining positive behaviour and discipline. You will also participate in extra-curricular activities and support the overall development of students with courtesy and courage.

You should have extensive knowledge of the subject, effective teaching and learning styles, and experience in planning and delivering schemes of work. Strong communication skills, the ability to inspire and enthuse young people, and a commitment to raising educational achievement are essential.

About us:

You will be part of our Humanities Department and will join our team of 7 specialist history teachers. History is one of our most popular subjects at GCSE, where we offer Edexcel History and OCR Ancient History. At A-level, we offer OCR History, providing a robust curriculum that supports continuous development. Our department is known for its collaborative and supportive environment, where teachers are encouraged to innovate and share best practices. We value courtesy, compassion, and courage in our staff, creating a positive and inclusive atmosphere for both students and teachers.

The Academy’s recent Ofsted inspection in November 2024 rated all areas as ‘Good’ and noted that “pupils benefit from a welcoming environment where diversity is celebrated. They enjoy celebrating each other’s differences and participating in cultural activities. The school provides an ambitious curriculum that ensures pupils develop a strong foundation of knowledge and skills from Year 3 through to Year 13, preparing them well for their next stage of education or employment.”

At Thomas Deacon Academy, our character values are at the heart of everything we do, and we are looking for someone who embodies them in their work.
