What skills and experience we're looking for

We are seeking someone who:

Is an enthusiastic and committed teacher who will plan and execute high quality lessons to ensure progress by all students (the department is also well resourced, and colleagues share resources regularly)

Will assist in the development of the curriculum and be prepared to share good practice across the Faculty

Will support students in the classroom and provide formative feedback for assessments so that pupils can revisit their work and make improvements

What the school offers its staff

The Humanities Faculty occupies a suite of well-equipped rooms on the first floor of the Barker Building. All classrooms have an interactive whiteboard and there is good access to IT rooms.

We pride ourselves on delivering an innovative and engaging curriculum that challenges our pupils as well as opening their eyes to the world around them. The School uses Microsoft Teams to set homework and share learning resources with pupils.

At Key Stage 3, pupils follow a syllabus derived from the National Curriculum. In History, students focus on the Medieval World in Year 7. They study History from the Anglo-Saxons to the Tudor period. Year 8 focuses on Britain in the Industrial Revolution, considering the Industrial Revolution, the Tran-Atlantic Slave Trade, Migration and the British Empire. Finally, in Year 9, students will look at 20th Century History. All classes at Key Stage 3 are mixed-ability.

At GCSE, groups are mixed ability. History follows the Edexcel Syllabus. History is a popular subject at GCSE, a trend that is expected to continue in the future.

History is a popular option at A level and many pupils go on to study at degree level.

The Faculty has a good record of success both at GCSE and A level. Students achieve well and enjoy History.

Various extra-curricular activities are on offer and trips are planned throughout the year. Currently, there are History trips to the battlefields of France and Belgium, a GCSE trip to Poland and the 6th Form go to Hampton Court Palace. The Faculty offers many trips including Italy, Greece and Iceland.

A full or part-time Teacher of History is required from September 2025.
