What skills and experience we're looking for
Phoenix is a multi-cultural 11-19 secondary school, serving 1,965 students in the north of West Bromwich close to the border with Walsall in the West Midlands. Opened in September 2010, as a result of the merger of two local schools, Phoenix has established itself as one of the highest performing schools in the area, an accolade achieved through commitment to continually improving the quality of teaching and learning and the provision of an exciting and dynamic learning experience for students.
Over recent years examination results have continued to improve which is reflected in our 2024 value added figure of +0.17 published by the DFE. This is expected to be further enhanced in 2025 with an EBacc cohort now approaching 40%. Phoenix is a school that aspires to turn every child’s dream into reality; believes that there is no limit to what can be achieved and succeeds through passion, commitment and determination.
We are seeking to appoint a highly talented and innovative, qualified teacher of History to join our friendly and supportive team. The History department at Phoenix is an experienced team of 8 teachers. The department is looking to expand due to the popularity of the subject at both GCSE and A level, with History being the most popular option at GCSE. If successful you will join an exciting and dynamic department, with opportunities to develop your practice amongst colleagues who are excelling and always willing to share best practice.
Results in the History department have continuously improved since 2019, with the success at GCSE contributing to the growing A level cohorts. The department follows a centrally planned curriculum to support workload management, while also allowing staff the flexibility to adapt resources to meet the needs of their students. You will be joining a high performing department, at the forefront of teaching and learning at Phoenix. There is a strong, supportive culture within the department, which will support you in your development.
What the school offers its staff
As a school we have a fabulous CPD offer to support colleagues at whatever point in their career they are, from our ITT to our senior leaders. We also offer our staff a supportive welfare package including, but not limited to, access to physiotherapy, nurse & doctor appointments and counselling. Phoenix is one of only a few schools nationally to benefit from the government’s priority schools building programme and our state-of-the-art facilities are second to none.
The students and staff at Phoenix face an exciting future. If you would like to be part of a school that is committed to becoming the very best, and if you can inspire and motivate our students, you could be the person for this role.
