Job Profile
Core Purpose
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Teacher of History to join our vibrant secondary school community on a fixed term, maternity cover contract. The successful candidate will deliver engaging and innovative History lessons across Key Stages 3 to 5, supporting and challenging pupils of all abilities to achieve their best.
Key Responsibilities
- Evidence of ongoing professional development relevant to this role
- Support and challenge pupils of all abilities to achieve
- Assess and record students' achievements, prepare reports, and participate in parental consultations
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to develop and share effective practice
- Participate in the school's performance management scheme
- Undergo in-service training and professional development as needed to stay up to date with school initiatives, curriculum developments, and subject knowledge
- Contribute to the wider life of the school and its pastoral system, supporting the wellbeing and development of students
- Observe and implement current school policies and best practices
- Perform duties and attend meetings as reasonably required by the school
- Deliver the History curriculum through scheduled teaching programmes, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning
- Carry out any other duties as the Headteacher may reasonably direct from time to time, in accordance with the Teachers' Pay and Conditions of Service Act 1987
Safeguarding
- The role involves regular contact with children and is engaging in regulated activity relevant to children.
- All staff are expected to adhere to the requirements set out in Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE).
- All appointments will be subject to satisfactory completion of safeguarding checks.
Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Degree in History or a related subject
- Evidence of ongoing professional development relevant to this role
Experience
- Successful experience of teaching History at secondary level
- Experience of assessing, recording, and reporting on students' progress
- Experience of working collaboratively within a school team
Skills and Knowledge
- Strong knowledge of the History curriculum and effective teaching strategies
- Ability to deliver high-quality lessons that engage and challenge students
- Understanding of effective assessment and feedback techniques
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Understanding of the requirements and guidance around safeguarding children (KCSIE)
- Ability to use IT effectively for planning, teaching, and reporting

Turing House School is an inspirational 11-19 secondary school. This September we welcomed our fifth cohort into our sixth form. Our first nine years have established us as a successful and exceptionally popular school, being oversubscribed for every intake. In May 2018, we were delighted when Ofsted judged us as good overall with outstanding leadership and management as well as personal development, behaviour and welfare. In April 2022, we moved into our newly built permanent site in Whitton site with state-of-the-art facilities.
Our external results so far have been very pleasing, with results at KS4 deemed to be significantly above national averages. All our post-16 students gained a place at university if that was their desired goal, with one student being placed at Cambridge in 2023.
To continue the vision for Turing House School, we need the very best staff who are able to embed our ethos into their teaching and wider school life. We have already created a wonderful environment for young people to learn and mature in and we continue to develop. Our aim is that all our students can be equipped to progress to the jobs, training and higher education most suited to their talents and abilities, irrespective of their social or economic circumstances and ultimately have high aspirations for themselves and their future.
