What skills and experience we're looking for
We are looking to appoint a Teacher of History who loves their subject, enjoys working with young people, and values a calm, thoughtful approach to teaching and learning.
History is a popular and successful subject at Warlingham, with strong uptake at both GCSE and A level. Our exam board for all key stages is AQA, allowing for coherence, depth, and real subject expertise to develop over time.
At GCSE, we teach:-
Germany 1890–1945
The Cold War 1945–1972
The Normans c.1066–1100
Power and the People c.1100–present day
At A level, our courses are:-
The Cold War 1945–1991
Industrialisation and the People: Britain c.1783–1885
One of the things we are most proud of as a department is the way we have designed our curriculum to support both students and staff. At KS3, KS4 and KS5, every unit is supported by high-quality booklets that are fully aligned to the curriculum and assessments. These booklets reduce unnecessary workload, support consistency, and allow teachers to focus their time where it matters most.
Wellbeing genuinely means something at Warlingham. We are realistic about workload, supportive of one another, and thoughtful in how we work, particularly in terms of our marking expectations in history!
You would be joining a department that values collaboration, shares resources generously, and understands that excellent teaching is sustainable teaching.
This role would suit someone at any stage of their career — from ECT to experienced teacher — who is reflective, kind, and committed to helping young people understand the world through history.
If you care deeply about your subject, want to teach in a department that is well organised and value working in a school where people look out for one another, we would love to hear from you. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any queries or to arrange a visit to the school.
Please note that applications will be considered upon receipt. Early applications are encouraged as we reserve the right to close the recruitment process once a suitable candidate is appointed.

What the school offers its staff
You will be joining a forward thinking Trust and will enjoy our many staff benefits which include: -
- Well established and supportive training and development opportunities
- Family friendly policies and wellbeing initiatives
- Employee Assistance Programme
- Lifestyle and retail discounts
- Staff sports and social events
Our intention is for students to understand history as a foundation for life-long learning. It is our hope that pupils will leave Warlingham with a true love of history andreap the benefits of what history has to offer.
Pupils gain a real sense of how the institutions and values that serve, guide and control them were created and changed over time. Thus, pupils learn to respect the fundamental values of democracy, rule of law, individual liberty and diversity. History should enable pupils to understand how individuals have made a contribution to our society, whether it be positive by acting as role models and demonstrating facets of their characters we can admire, which reflect the values of the school of courage, commitment and kindness, whilst also realising that others have had a negative impact.
Historians at Warlingham will understand from their learning journey how History has a vital role to play in teaching them to discern fact from opinion in a society where they are open to such a breadth of influences.
