Teacher of Humanities job summary
We are looking for a passionate and committed Teacher of Humanities to join our team at Lift Sir Herbert Leon.
We welcome applications from teachers at all stages of their career and would particularly encourage Early Career Teachers (ECTs) to apply. You'll be joining a supportive team with excellent ECT support in place, giving you the opportunity to develop your practice, build your confidence and grow your career.
About the role
As a Teacher of Humanities, you'll deliver engaging and ambitious lessons that challenge students to think deeply, ask questions, and make meaningful connections across different periods, beliefs, cultures, and perspectives. Our Director of Humanities is also the Trust Network Lead for Religious Education, giving the department the opportunity to benefit from wider subject expertise, collaboration and best practice across Lift Schools.
The role will focus on Geography and History, with some teaching of Religious Studies.
Our History curriculum is designed as a coherent five-year journey, building students' chronological knowledge, historical skills and critical thinking. Students explore British and global history while developing their understanding of concepts such as cause and consequence, change and continuity, significance, and historical interpretation.
Our Religious Studies curriculum develops students' knowledge of diverse religions and worldviews alongside their theological, philosophical and ethical thinking. At KS3, students encounter major religious and non-religious worldviews, while KS4 builds towards the Edexcel GCSE, including the study of Christianity and Islam.
Geography provides students with opportunities to explore the physical and human world, understand the relationships between people, places and environments, and develop the knowledge and skills to engage with some of the key challenges facing our world today.
You'll have the opportunity to:
- Plan and deliver engaging lessons that inspire curiosity and encourage students to think critically and creatively
- Support students of different abilities to make strong progress and achieve their potential
- Use assessment effectively to identify gaps in learning and adapt teaching accordingly
- Create a positive and inclusive classroom where students feel confident contributing, questioning and exploring ideas
- Contribute to the continued development of the Humanities curriculum
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and take an active role in the wider life of the academy
We are looking for someone who
You'll be passionate about your subject and committed to providing an excellent education for every student. You'll have high expectations, strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with young people.
You'll hold, or be working towards, Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and have a relevant degree or strong subject knowledge within Humanities.
Whether you are an ECT beginning your teaching career or an experienced teacher looking for your next opportunity, we're interested in hearing from people who share our ambition for our students.
