Teacher of Law and Humanities job summary

Are you seeking an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering the curriculum in a dynamic and ambitious school? If so, St Mary’s CE High School is looking for a Law and Humanities Teacher to join us from January 2027.

This post offers an exciting opportunity to join a successful and ambitious Humanities faculty, leading the delivery of our thriving Key Stage 5 Law provision. Law is a highly popular subject, attracting strong student numbers and making a significant contribution to our sixth form curriculum.

The successful candidate will have the unique opportunity to be the sole teacher of Law, taking ownership of the curriculum and shaping its future development. This role would suit a passionate and knowledgeable practitioner who is excited by the prospect of building on an already successful course while inspiring students to develop their understanding of law, justice, rights and society.

In addition to teaching A Level Law, the successful candidate will teach within the wider Humanities faculty at Key Stage 3 or Key Stage 4, depending on experience and expertise. This may include History, Geography, Personal Development or Religious Studies.

We are seeking an enthusiastic teacher with high expectations, strong subject knowledge and a commitment to helping every student fulfil their potential. Whether you are an early career teacher or an experienced practitioner, this role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to a supportive and collaborative team while helping to shape the future direction of a growing and successful subject.

For suitably experienced candidates, there may be opportunities to contribute to wider curriculum development and take on additional leadership responsibilities within the faculty.

Applicants do not need to be practising Christians but would be expected to uphold our Christian principles of trust, forgiveness, compassion, thankfulness, friendship and love, as well as our vision where, ‘Through God’s love, we are the rich soil where seeds flourish and roots grow’.

In line with this vision, we are committed to developing you in the role, both in the short term through a supportive induction programme, and in the long term through Leadership CPD (e.g. national professional qualifications).

The school takes induction for those new to the school, and their continuing professional development very seriously. Please read what the Head Teacher has to say about this here: Induction and Development

St Mary’s CE High School is committed to providing a safe and caring learning environment, founded on our Christian principles. We continue to develop an excellent standard of education for all students, allowing everyone to achieve their full potential regardless of ability or background in a safe and inspiring community.

The school has a well-designed, ambitious curriculum. This is evident in the good quality of pupils’ learning demonstrated in lessons and in their books.

Pupils live up to leaders’ expectations of their behaviour. Pupils follow the well-established routines in lessons and usually focus on learning.

Pupils are proud of their school.
