What the school offers its staff
This is an exciting and rewarding opportunity to be part of a team delivering our Year 7 competency-based curriculum at a brand-new academy, with the potential to shape your career with us as the academy grows.
Shireland CBSO Academy is an exciting new school that opened to Year 7 in September 2023 and is the first state school in the country to have a partnership with a professional orchestra. Based in Providence Place, West Bromwich, the Academy will work in partnership with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO) and serve all of Sandwell and the wider West Midlands. The Academy is for all students who have a passion or talent for music – they do not necessarily need to already play an instrument.
Shireland Collegiate Academy Trust is a recognised leader in education and was founded by three-times Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ Shireland Collegiate Academy: Our students will study a full, broad and balanced curriculum, seen through the lens of music. In Year 7, we will follow the ‘Literacy for Life’ model developed by our Trust over the last 15 years: Students learn via a thematic approach to their studies, spending 17 hours a week with the same teacher, enabling them to smoothly transition from primary to secondary school.
Literacy for Life
Literacy for Life is a thematic curriculum taught for 17 hours each week in Year 7, 13 hours in Year 8 and 5 hours in Year 9. Each teacher is focused on the students in their Literacy for Life class, not just from an academic perspective but also getting to know the students and their families and forming a partnership which will really help students to make progress.
Our Year 7 programme will be accommodated in a bespoke technologically rich, new build environment.
