What skills and experience we're looking for

The Academy

This is an exciting and rewarding opportunity to be part of a team delivering our KS3 competency-based curriculum at a brand-new academy, with the potential to shape your career with us as the academy grows.

Shireland CBSO Academy is an exciting new school which opened to Year 7 in September 2023 and is the first state school in the country to be established with a professional orchestra. Based in Providence Place, West Bromwich, the Academy works in partnership with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO) and serves all of Sandwell and the wider West Midlands. The Academy is for all students who have a passion or talent for music – they do not necessarily need to already play an instrument.

Literacy for Life

Literacy for Life is a thematic curriculum taught for 15 hours each week in Year 7, 13 hours in Year 8 and 5 hours in Year 9. Each teacher is focused on the students in their Literacy for Life class, not just from an academic perspective but also getting to know the students and their families and forming a partnership which will really help students to make progress. The role of a form tutor is crucial to supporting our pastoral processes as a school.

We are seeking inspirational teachers from either secondary or Upper Key Stage 2.

Applicants will:

  • Be passionate about improving the lives of students they serve
  • Be confident in teaching across subjects
  • Be committed to enhancing their subject knowledge across the National Curriculum
  • Role model a commitment to excellence
  • Be confident in using pedagogies for thematic/project-based learning
  • Want to collaborate as part of a team
  • Be passionate about their pastoral and academic responsibility
  • Be flexible and adaptable, rising to the challenge of growing a new Academy
  • Have high standards for students and themselves.

What the school offers its staff

In return we will offer:

  • Excellent career development opportunities and access to a comprehensive programme of CPD
  • An extensive support programme for ECTs
  • An ICT-rich environment which allows staff to be innovative in harnessing technology for learning
  • Employee Health and Wellbeing Package

The Shireland Collegiate Academy Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment.
