Teacher of Mathematics & Whole School Numeracy Lead (TLR 2c) job summary

Join a Team That is Committed to ‘Building Brighter Futures’ at Paxman Academy

Are you a collaborative professional who thrives in a supportive community? Ready to help students fulfil their full potential?

At Paxman Academy, we're dedicated to creating an ordered, stimulating learning environment where every student is valued, respected, and encouraged to achieve their best.

We are looking to appoint an exceptional Teacher of Maths to take strategic responsibility for Whole School Numeracy. This is a dual-impact role: you will lead high-level teaching and learning strategies within the Maths department to close the attainment gap, while concurrently directing a whole-school approach to numeracy. Collaborating with our Curriculum leads, you will provide expert training to staff and ensure that every student—regardless of their starting point—has the numerical tools required to succeed across all curriculum areas.

The start date for this post is 1st September 2026.

A Day in the Life:

Your core duties will include:

  • Strategic Leadership: Responsibility for the design and implementation of the School Improvement Plan regarding whole-school numeracy, with a particular focus on the progress and outcomes of disadvantaged pupils and those receiving Service Premium.
  • Curriculum Alignment: Working formally with curriculum leaders to audit and map numeracy across the curriculum. You will ensure that mathematical methods are applied consistently and with rigor across all subject areas.
  • Data Accountability: Undertaking the rigorous tracking and systematic analysis of attainment data for disadvantaged cohorts in mathematics across all Key Stages.
  • Targeted Intervention: Developing and overseeing evidence-based intervention strategies—including small-group tutoring and mentoring—tailored specifically for underachieving disadvantaged cohorts.
  • Pedagogical Excellence: Maintaining a caseload of outstanding mathematics teaching, serving as a model of best practice and a source of expert guidance for colleagues within the department.

What We're Looking For:

  • Qualifications & Experience: A fully qualified teacher (QTS) with experience teaching Mathematics across the secondary range for Key Stages 3 and 4.
  • Subject Passion: An inspirational practitioner with a "can-do" philosophy who demonstrates a genuine enthusiasm for mathematics.
  • Strategic Leadership: The capacity to identify and develop opportunities to drive whole-school numeracy and improve outcomes for disadvantaged students.
  • Collaborative Spirit: A professional who works effectively with staff and students at all levels and is willing to contribute to the wider life of the Academy.
  • Resilience: An energetic and adaptable leader who remains flexible and uses initiative when working under pressure.
  • Safeguarding Commitment: A dedicated professional with a profound commitment to child protection and the welfare of young people.
