ECT’s welcome to apply

Start date: September 2026

Place of work: Cambourne Village College, Cambourne

We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed teacher of mathematics to join our vibrant, highly supportive and successful Maths Department at Cambourne Village College.

Why join us as a Teacher of Mathematics?

This is an exciting time to join our department. We have an established record of high-quality teaching and learning across Years 7-11, and in September 2024 we proudly opened our brand-new Sixth Form, welcoming our first cohort of Year 12 students.

We enjoy a close and highly productive relationship with the Cambridgeshire Maths Hub, which is based here at Cambourne Village College, providing exceptional opportunities for professional development and collaboration.

Our pupils and curriculum

Our pupils are courteous, motivated and eager to learn. They study a Trust-developed maths curriculum, supported by a comprehensive bank of collaboratively planned lesson resources that teachers are encouraged to use and adapt. We place a strong emphasis on supporting staff workload while recognising the importance of professional autonomy in the classroom.

The department subscribes to a range of high-quality platforms to support teaching and learning, including Sparx, MathsBox, MathsPad and Integral Maths.

All pupils and teaching staff are equipped with iPads as part of our one-to-one iPad scheme.

We teach in attainment groups throughout Years 7-11, with schemes of work tailored to meet the needs of all learners. Alongside GCSE Mathematics, we offer tailored pathways that support students to achieve appropriate qualifications including Level 1 Number and Measure, GCSE Statistics, Level 2 Further Maths and Level 3 Additional Maths.

In the Sixth Form, we offer A Level Mathematics, A Level Further Mathematics and Level 3 Core Maths.

Enrichment and wider opportunities

We are passionate about extending pupils’ mathematical learning beyond the classroom. Pupils take part in UKMT individual and team challenges, Maths Inspiration and Eureka trips. We organise a highly popular trip to Bletchley Park for Year 9 pupils.

A supportive and collaborative team

The Maths Department is friendly, sociable and highly supportive. We have a well-equipped, shared department office where we often spend break and lunch together as a team. We are fortunate to be supported by several specialist maths teaching assistants.

We have a strong track record of successfully supporting ECTs, trainee teachers and experienced staff. We are proud to be a partner school with the University of Cambridge Faculty of Education and a placement school for CTSN SCITT trainees.

Professional development and career progression

We are deeply committed to continual reflection and professional growth. Our programme includes:

  • Regular department meetings and fortnightly pedagogy sessions
  • Additional non-contact time for ECTs for coaching, observation and co-planning with an experienced mentor
  • Encouragement and support to participate in Cambridge Maths Hub work groups
  • Opportunities to work closely with the Maths Hub, including leading work groups and part-time secondments
  • Support for staff wishing to complete a Master’s in Education
  • Development pathways for staff interested in mentoring trainee teachers or ECTs

We welcome applications from teachers seeking flexible or part-time working arrangements.

Cambourne Village College, an academy of The Cam Academy Trust, opened in brand new premises in September 2013 with just five forms of Year 7 pupils. Serving one of the fastest-growing communities in the UK, we now have more than 1300 pupils on roll, with major further expansion planned, including the opening of our new sixth form centre in September 2024.

The College has enjoyed remarkable success since opening, gaining an early Ofsted Outstanding rating along with designation as a Leading Edge School. Our pupils achieve excellent results in public examinations via a curriculum designed to offer maximum breadth and opportunity for all abilities. Our extra-curricular offer is also outstanding: annual musical drama performances, termly concerts, a wide range of competitive and recreational sporting activities, and many further clubs and events are on offer. In 2019, we were granted the International School Award by the British Council and are looking forward to re-launching our programme of international visits and exchanges this year.

We strive to be a welcoming and inclusive school for our pupils and also to fulfil our Village College ethos in serving the whole community: we support an active adult education programme and more than 30 local groups and organisations make use of the school’s facilities, out of hours. This unusual commitment to our local community was a key factor in our winning a prestigious Silver Award in the ‘Making a Difference’ category of the Pearson School of the Year celebrations in 2018.
