Stourport High School & VIth Form College is on a journey of improvement, with a focus on:

● building a learning community

● strong curriculum strategy

● consistently good teaching

● a culture of kindness and care

● collaboration with our wider school community

We are a growing team of enthusiastic, passionate and dedicated linguists who firmly believe that language learning is an essential part of a child’s education and their gateway to broader horizons and greater opportunities. We aim to make our faculty a fun, engaging and vibrant place where students love to learn due to positive relationships between staff, students and parents. We are fully committed to inclusivity and celebrating diversity.

Our curriculum has been specially devised to incorporate the latest MFL pedagogical research by experts such as Gianfranco Conti, Steve Smith, Katie Lockett and many more. We plan and create our own resources in a collaborative way, sharing the workload across the team. We have access to some text book resources, such as Viva and Studio Active Learn packages for KS4. We follow the AQA specifications for GCSE and also for A level. Most recently, we have only taught French at KS5 but are looking to re-introduce Spanish A level in the next few years.

Whenever possible we incorporate cultural understanding into our lessons and to support this, we already have an active link with a French school in Castres and are now looking for a partner school in Spain. We usually run two educational visits each year, to Paris and Barcelona, and also offer a reading club and a film club. We look for any and every opportunity to motivate and inspire our students to learn languages! If you wish to find out more about us, please visit our Faculty Website which can be found linked from Stourport High School’s website or follow our active Twitter account: @languages_shs

Equally, our Head of Faculty, would be happy to discuss the role and the faculty over the phone or through a school visit.
