Teacher of MFL job summary

An opportunity for a passionate and committed Teacher of MFL seeking a new opportunity

Oasis Academy Lord’s Hill is looking to recruit an inspiring teacher to join our MFL Department. The ability to offer both French and Spanish will be an advantage to applicants. The main language taught will however be French. The Academy teaches principally French, but with Spanish still offered at Key Stage 4. Increasing numbers of students choosing a language at Key Stage 4 is one of our main ambitions, through offering an exciting and engaging curriculum, built on the principles of interleaving and working memory.

Oasis Academy Lord’s Hill is part of the highly successful Oasis Community Learning multi-academy trust. As part of this, the Trust has developed the new Oasis MFL curriculum, a world-class curriculum supported by national best practice. This curriculum offers comprehensive resources, extensive support with curriculum planning and pedagogical training and updates from our dedicated MFL National Lead Practitioner.

The Academy has state of the art facilities. The Horizons Project sees every student in the Academy a dedicated IPad for use in the classroom. This is a hugely exciting development, and one which we want our new MFL teacher to play a key part in developing the use of online and interactive technology to enhance language learning.

The successful candidate will share our ambition of community transformation, delivered by exceptional education at the heart of the community. We are searching for somebody who can join us on the next exciting phase of our journey.

A commitment to the Oasis ethos and curriculum, allied to a relentless drive to improving outcomes for our young people, is essential.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a wonderful school in a great community, as part of a national and international multi-academy trust. Providing significant professional development opportunities is one of our Academy and Trust strengths, through MFL-dedicated support and opportunities to collaborate with colleagues in Southampton through the SEF MFL network and wider with colleagues in our regional and national Academies.

Job/Person Summary

The successful candidate will be required to teach French across key stage 3 and 4 to an excellent standard. The ability to offer Spanish, whilst not required, would be positive. The successful candidate should be willing to enrich the curriculum with their own knowledge and experience.

This role offers excellent opportunities for the right candidate to develop their role working in collaboration with the other academies in Southampton. You must be able to use a range of teaching strategies to inspire and motivate our students, including an interest and developing competence in the use of online technology to support students in language learning. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to sharing best practice with colleagues in the department via our weekly dedicated co-planning meeting. We are looking for a passionate teacher who shares our desire for the highest academic standards for our young people.

A willingness to support the Academy ethos and extra-curricular activities within the Academy is essential. The Academy is keen to develop wider opportunities for MFL outside of the classroom, such as competitions, an after-school club and the opportunity to undertake a trip abroad to experience the language and culture first-hand.
