Teacher of PE job summary

We are a large faculty of friendly, enthusiastic and committed PE teachers who all share a very similar vision about the purpose and ethos of PE in a secondary school. We strive to have enjoyable and engaging lessons that encourage as many students as possible to continue with their learning and development outside of lesson time. Many of our students take up the opportunity to study PE at examination level in KS4 and at A Level, and as well as fostering a love of physical education and a commitment to the benefits that exercise can bring, we also aim to use PE to benefit students’ confidence and broad skills such as tactical awareness, decision making, teamwork, collaboration and leadership.

We offer a wide range of extra-curricular clubs that are open to all students and are extremely well attended; many students go on to represent our school in competitive fixtures. The person appointed would be keen to contribute to this extra-curricular provision and ideally would be able to complement and improve an already strong wider curriculum offer.

The team is a dynamic and hardworking group of teachers. There is a shared commitment to high standards of teaching and learning as well as concern for each individual student they work with.

The person appointed will be assured of considerable support; we are a hardworking faculty who are keen to share ideas and the principle of mutual professional support is paramount. Farlingaye provides an excellent support programme for newly appointed staff with an innovative CPD programme and lots of opportunities for development. The post requires QTS and would be suitable for both an ECT or for an experienced teacher.

  • You share our passion for education, and can clearly communicate a love of your subject
  • You are able to work collaboratively with others and contribute to wider teams in our school community
  • You have a desire to make a difference

In return we can offer you:

  • Enthusiastic and ambitious students who are keen to learn with proven high achievement and attainment
  • A strong reputation locally and in the wider community
  • A talented staff team that welcome new challenges and are committed to supporting colleagues and students
  • A very wide range of exciting extra-curricular activities
  • Opportunities to work in genuine collaboration with EAST and our partner schools
  • A supportive community, and Local Governing Body
  • A comprehensive induction programme
  • OFSTED Good, 2022
  • Access to the staff Wellbeing ‘Employee Assistance Programme’ and benefits of working for Farlingaye and within EAST
