What skills and experience we're looking for

Are you seeking a new opportunity to join a highly successful comprehensive school that provides an outstanding education of excellence for all? Would you thrive when working with other committed and innovative members of staff who embody sector leading educational practice?

Leigh Academy Halley is now recruiting for a Teacher of PE to join us from January 2027. This is a truly fantastic opportunity for a passionate Teacher of PE to become part of an established, collaborative and successful PE team to ensure that students enjoy a challenging, dynamic and rewarding curriculum. We have a proud and genuine commitment to giving all students the opportunity to explore and excel in a diverse range of sporting activities, so that we support them in leading healthy and active lifestyles during adulthood. All students enjoy core PE in Years 7-11. Sport BTEC is both popular and one of our top performing subjects at both Key Stage 4 and 5. Many of our Year 13 students have historically progressed onto sports related post-18 university or apprenticeship courses. In addition to this, the PE department offers a wide range of extracurricular activities everyday of the week, both before and after school. Our Academy Sports Day is always one of the highlights of the year, and we enjoy competing in sporting competitions both across Greenwich borough and Leigh Academies Trust. We have a state-of-the-art sports centre and extensive outdoor grounds that are well utilised and respected.

This is an opportunity that offers a competitive MPS + Inner London salary, commensurate with experience. This position would also be suitable for NQTs, who were keen to commence and progress their teaching career with us. We also welcome applications from prospective colleagues who would wish to work part time, as well as full time.

If this sounds like an environment within which you would like to work, apply to join our team from January 2027.

*For genuine occupational requirement reasons we are looking to appoint a woman only for this post (exemption under the Equality Act 2010 Part 1 Schedule 9).

Key responsibilities, as outlined in the job description, include;

  • Set high expectations that inspire, motivate, and challenge students.
  • Promote good progress and outcomes by students.
  • Demonstrate good subject and curriculum knowledge.
  • Plan and teach well-structured lessons.
  • Adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of all students.
  • Make accurate and productive use of assessment.
  • Manage behaviour effectively to ensure a good and safe learning environment.

  • We offer pupils the very best in learning opportunities by delivering high quality teaching via our bespoke curriculum, alongside inspiring and wide-ranging extracurricular opportunities.
  • We believe in developing staff into outstanding practitioners through our excellent CPD programmes.
