Bacons College - Teacher of Performing Arts (Music, Drama or Dance) - full time or part-time job summary
Bacon’s has long been an important part of the fabric of the local community in South East London and has served the community in its various forms for over three hundred years. We are proud of that history and determined to meet the needs of students today and tomorrow. The school joined the United Learning MAT in 2018 and has gone from strength to strength since. We are now oversubscribed with first-choice applicants and achieved a ‘Good’ OFSTED inspection and excellent exam results in 2022.
Bacon’s is a thriving community that is welcoming of students of all faiths and those of none. Staff and students value the distinctive nature of its Christian ethos to which every member of our community contributes. Our values are courage, compassion, respect, faith and integrity. The strength of our ethos was recognised during a SIAMS inspection in 2019 which graded the College as ‘Excellent’.
We are fortunate to offer excellent sporting provision and also make use of off-site facilities. Learning is at the heart of everything we do. Part of our mission statement is that ‘students are exhorted to achieve academic and personal excellence’. We have the highest aspirations for our students, determined that anyone can achieve highly and overcome any barriers that may lie in their path. We do not apologise for insisting that all students behave well and work hard.
Bacon’s achievements were recognised by Ofsted in June 2022 when we received a grading of ‘Good’ overall and in every area. We also celebrated our best ever GCSE outcomes in 2022 with 79% of students achieving 5+ 9-4 grades inc. English and Maths and a Progress 8 of +0.48. Our VI form results were also our best ever with 69% of grades at A*-B and an ALPS score of 2 (top 10% nationally). This is an exciting time to be joining Bacon’s as we seek to continuously improve and be a great school in every respect.

The Role
We are seeking to appoint a passionate, highly motivated and ambitious Teacher of Performing Arts. If you are a dedicated, motivated and determined individual looking for an opportunity to make your mark, this is the perfect opportunity for you to join our journey to success.
Performing Arts is a strong area of the school with a track record of successful outcomes. Outcomes in music and dance in 2022 were high with all students achieving at least a pass at Level 2 BTEC. Drama GCSE results were excellent with 71% of students achieving grades 9-5. We are not complacent and seek to improve results year on year.
Our extracurricular offer is extensive and all performing arts teachers are required to contribute to this. The school is keen to develop extra-curricular music, dance and drama next year and resources are being set aside to allow this to happen. You can play an integral role in developing the best performing arts provision in the area.
Performing Arts is a growing area of the school, and we can be very flexible in order to appoint the best candidate(s). Any combinations of dance, music and drama will be considered, as would part-time or full-time working.
