What skills and experience we're looking for

Responsible to the Headteacher at Inspire Academy for delivering qualifications to secondary learners, primarily at KS3 and KS4 and ensuring the best possible outcomes for our learners, who all have an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) and have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The purpose of the post is to secure high quality teaching, effective use of resources and ensure improved standards of learning and achievement for all students. The post holder will ensure a cohesive and personalised programme of learning activities for Inspire Academy learners, in line with the national curriculum. The post holder will also have some pastoral responsibility and strive to ensure strong parent / carer relationships and have strong communication skills. For the right candidate there could also be the opportunity to train as a SENCO, or to become a Middle Leader, which will attract a TLR. These options can be explored at interview. The post holder will support the senior leadership team (SLT) in raising standards and improving outcomes for learners, through the provision of high quality professional services across the school.

The successful candidate will be an outstanding classroom practitioner with a proven track record of success and the ability to achieve the best outcomes for all students. We are particularly interested in candidates who share our commitment to improving the life chances of young people regardless of background. Teachers are responsible to the designated member of SLT for supporting the general good order and discipline of Inspire Academy. All staff are expected to have a clear understanding of the aims, objectives and ethos of Inspire Academy and an awareness of its role in the community. It is essential that the academic and pastoral frameworks of Inspire Academy be seen as inter-related.

What the school offers its staff

This is an exciting opportunity to join an expanding SEMH provision, with our current pupil numbers being increased as of April 2023. We will also be moving to a brand new, purpose-built academy in September 2025, which will increase our capacity even further, leading to good career progression opportunities for the right candidates. If you are looking for a new challenge and would like to be part of a great team, then please do not hesitate to contact us to arrange a visit, or ask any questions.

We will also consider carrying out an online search on shortlisted candidates to identify any incidents or issues, related to suitability to work with children, that may need to be raised or clarified at interview (as part of the 'Keeping Children Safe in Education' statutory requirements released in September 2022). All shortlisted candidates are subject to the Academy's safer recruitment practices.

Information about the Academy: Inspire Academy is an SEMH Special School for children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, and forms part of The Parallel Learning Multi-Academy Trust. All the students at Inspire Academy have an EHCP (Education Health and Care Plan), with a primary need of SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health). Some exhibit very challenging behaviour and Mainstream schooling is not always the most appropriate setting for them. Sometimes their first encounter of school has been chaotic and certainly challenging, many have had a fragmented education and have fallen behind their peers academically. This often results in self-esteem issues and anti-social behaviour. With small classes and amazing staff that truly understand SEMH we feel that once a student starts at Inspire they have every opportunity to turn their lives around. Every child has the right to achieve and we believe that every parent and carer has the right to expect that Inspire Academy will do its very best for their child. With this in mind we work closely with parents and carers and other agencies to help each student make positive choices and changes which will serve them better in their future. A key feature that we try to adopt is teaching the students to take responsibility for their behaviour and consequences. We teach them to try and put things right when they go wrong, together with learning the values of tolerance and respect for themselves and others. Information about the Trust: Parallel Learning Trust is a Special and Alternative Provision Multi- Academy Trust. The Trust is committed to transforming lives for all pupils. Currently, we have seven academies that offer alternative or special provision for those children with social, emotional or mental health needs, with clear plans for sustainable growth over the next 3 years. The Parallel Learning Trust was founded in 2014 to support the conversion of Park Campus and Kennington Park. The Members and Directors of the Trust have a wealth of experience, brought together by a passion for giving children the best start in life. You can find out more about skills and attributes of the Members and Directors by going to the following page: www.plt.org.uk/about-us/who-we-are
