Teacher of Saxophone job summary

An exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic specialist Saxophone peripatetic instrumental teacher to join our busy and successful Music department. The music facilities and resources are outstanding, and we are strongly committed to this vital part of school life. Including the Director of Music, the department currently comprises 2 classroom Music teachers, a Technician, an Administrator and 12 peripatetic instrumental teachers.

We are looking to appoint a peripatetic Saxophone Teacher who can teach and prepare students for Jazz and Classical exams up to and beyond Grade 8 standard; the ability to accompany and teach Jazz piano would also be an advantage. We currently have 9 students who have weekly individual half-hour lessons. Ideally, applicants should have experience in delivering one-to-one lessons to students of different ages and abilities, including being comfortable with teaching beginners. A willingness to run our established Jazz Workshop and co-curricular Saxophone groups would also be welcomed, and the successful candidate would be expected to contribute to the active musical life of the school. Applicants are encouraged to visit the school website and social media accounts for more information.

Candidates are welcome to email Mr Stuart Bates, Director of Music, to arrange an informal discussion about the role before application, s.bates@parmiters.herts.sch.uk.

Ofsted (2024) commented that (pupils) “are active participants in their learning and consistently demonstrate high levels of focus … teachers are experts in the subjects they teach … pupils’ conduct and manners are exemplary … any disruption to learning is incredibly rare… staff are extremely positive about the support that they receive from leaders…particularly around their professional development and well-being”.

We can offer the successful candidate:

  • Staff Well-Being initiatives include an online GP service, Employee Assistance Programme, complimentary use of the on-site Fitness Suite, and an on-site subsidised electric vehicle charging point.

  • A high-quality and well-resourced teaching environment with highly talented and engaged students.

  • Lovely school grounds in leafy surrounds with plenty of parking.

Parmiter's is a partially selective 11-18 co-educational school of 1496 students, including 418 in the Sixth Form. Academic results are consistently strong and we remain the most heavily oversubscribed school in Hertfordshire.

Parmiter’s is an academy, receiving government funding as well as support from the Parmiter's Foundation, which owns the school and its site and continues to invest in the school’s development. Our accommodation, sports and many other facilities are exceptionally good, well-resourced and well-maintained.

In July 2024, Ofsted rated the school Outstanding in all areas, commenting, "Throughout the school, including the Sixth Form, pupils thrive. They receive an exceptional standard of education. Not only do pupils achieve high academic success, but they also develop into well-rounded, active members of society."

As a large secondary Academy, we have many opportunities for both teaching and support staff. Parmiter's is an exciting and enjoyable place to work. New colleagues are made welcome and supported by a comprehensive induction programme, which means that you quickly feel at home. Our involvement as a strategic partner of the Watford Partnership for Teacher Training has further broadened our CPD and INSET opportunities to support colleagues at all stages of their careers.
