OUR SCIENCE DEPARTMENT

 

Science Curriculum

All students in Key Stages 3 and 4 study Science as part of their curriculum offer. In Years 7 and 8 students have 6 periods per fortnight and in Years 9, 10 and 11 they have 9 periods per fortnight. At the end of Year 9 students select their preferred pathways which includes the opportunity to select triple science. At Key Stage 5 Biology, Chemistry and Physics are offered as part of the Sixth Form curriculum offer.

 

KS3 – Bespoke curriculum designed around the Best Evidence Science Teaching (BEST)

 

GCSE – Edexcel Combined and Edexcel Triple Science (option)

 

A Level – OCR Biology A, Chemistry A and AQA Physics

 

Further Information about Science

The Science department at Erasmus Darwin Academy is highly collaborative, supportive and has established strong working relationships to deliver the highest quality of education for our students. Staff regularly take part in both internal and external CPD as well as working collaboratively with colleagues from other schools either as part cross-phase developments within the trust or with ITT providers supporting the development of future teachers.

 

In recent years the Science department have offered a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities including trips, Science club and intervention. Leadership opportunities are also provided for senior students as learning mentors, in lesson support and during after school events.

 

Staffing

Our current Science Team consists of the following staff:

 

Mr Dene Cropper (Subject Leader), Miss Jessica Luke (Lead Teacher), Mrs Sukky Badesha (Lead Teacher) Mrs Helen Morrey, Mrs Zainab Ahmed, Dr. Ioan Rees, Mrs Allen Stock (Part-Time) Dr. Nadia Thomas, Mrs Judy Johnson, and Mrs D Quilter (Technician).

 

 

Facilities

We have invested in our Science facilities over the last few years. We have 8 laboratories, all of which allow teachers to complete practical based lessons. In addition, we have adequate space for the storage of practical equipment and excellent support for practical work. We believe in a shared and collaborative planning and therefore have open access to platforms where colleagues can share resources.
