What skills and experience we're looking for

Join us on a journey - and help shape something special At Miltoncross Academy, we have an ambitious mission: to become the best non-selective school in Portsmouth for progress by 2030. That’s a bold goal - but we are already well on our way, and we’d love you to be part of this journey.

Over the past 12 months, our Science team has driven a 15% increase in Grade 4+ outcomes and we are not slowing down. This is a school in the midst of rapid, transformational change - the kind that is exciting, purposeful and (most importantly) sustainable. We work hard, we support each other, and yes - there is plenty of laughter along the way. Because while we take our mission seriously, we know that great schools are built by teams who enjoy what they do.

If you are someone who wants to be part of something meaningful, dynamic and genuinely improving lives, then Miltoncross could be exactly what you’re looking for.

About Miltoncross Academy:

Miltoncross is an academy at the heart of its community with very high aspirations for both staff and students. We are guided by our core values: Work Hard. Be Kind. No Excuses. These values underpin a culture where everyone is respected, supported and committed to excellence. We offer a supportive and collegiate environment where the focus is simple: exceptional learning for every child.

Over the past two years, we have built a culture that is optimistic, sustainable and rooted in doing the right things well. Our systems are designed to reduce unnecessary workload, giving teachers the time and space to focus on what matters most - great teaching. With centralised resources, sensible marking strategies and clear routines, we aim to make teaching both impactful and enjoyable.

Our modern facilities and convenient location (with excellent access from the M27/A27) make Miltoncross an easy commute from across Hampshire and beyond. Many staff commute easily from Southampton, Hampshire, Isle of Wight and West Sussex either by car or by public transport. Our systems and structures are designed to liberate staff and students, freeing us all up from the challenges of uncertainty and relentless workload which in turn enables creativity, excitement and essentially, it makes coming to school enjoyable for all! To understand this better, do ask to read our Blueprint for Brilliance which outlines everything we do, why and how. This could really help you make an informed decision about whether this is your next career move or not. We think it should be!

The Role:

Due to increasing student numbers and continued growth, we are seeking a Teacher of Science to join our ambitious and supportive department.

Whether you are an experienced practitioner or an ECT at the start of your career, we are looking for someone who:

  • Is passionate about Science and committed to sharing that passion with students,
  • Has high expectations and a relentless focus on student progress,
  • Is reflective, open to development and keen to improve, and
  • Wants to be part of a team that is driving real change.

Our Science department is on a strong upward trajectory and you will be joining a team that is collaborative, driven and rightly proud of its transformational impact.

Why Join Us? At Miltoncross, we believe that great teaching thrives in the right conditions. That’s why we prioritise:

- Manageable workload through efficient systems and shared resources

- Professional growth, with access to over 80-hours each year of high-quality CPD

- A strong team culture, where colleagues genuinely support each other

- Clear behaviour systems that allow teachers to focus on teaching

We are a cheerful, forward-thinking school where everyone is pulling in the same direction - working hard to give our students the education they deserve.

Interested? If you would like to discuss the role or arrange a visit, we would be delighted to hear from you. Please make contact if you wish to have a conversation with our Head of Department, Mr Chris Jones (Chris.Jones@miltoncross-tkat.org), or our Deputy Headteacher, Mr Simon Knight (Simon.Knight@miltoncross-tkat.org).
