We are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Teacher of Science to join our thriving Science Department. Our vision in Science at Cheadle Hulme High School is to create an ambitious and challenging curriculum that provides all students with the knowledge, skills and cultural capital they need to succeed in life and a depth of understanding that will enable them to pursue science beyond Key Stages 4 and 5. We offer a broad and deep curriculum that focuses on powerful knowledge and threshold concepts. We believe that mastery of threshold concepts is integral to students accessing powerful knowledge and gaining a deep understanding and appreciation of science. At Cheadle Hulme we place an emphasis on teaching our students the disciplinary knowledge behind the scientific concepts we teach; we believe this underpins the fundamental nature of our subject and allows our students to appreciate the resilience and perseverance required to be successful in Science.
What the school offers its staff
Cheadle Hulme High School (CHHS) is the founder school of the Laurus Trust. We are a hugely oversubscribed school with a reputation locally, and further afield, for outstanding teaching and learning through the relentless pursuit of excellence and a determination to ensure that every child succeeds. CHHS was judged Outstanding in every category by Ofsted in 2011 and 2015.
In the 2024 KS4 Progress 8 Headline measure, CHHS came in the top 5% of non-selective schools nationally. We are delighted with the performance of the class of 2024’s GCSE results; a fantastic 45% of all GCSE grades were 7 or above. 71% of students achieved 5 and above and 85% achieved grade 4 and above in both GCSE English and Maths, making this the best set of GCSE results the school has ever seen which is even more impressive given the return to pre-pandemic grading.
In 2023 the progress of our disadvantaged students was Progress 8 +0.3, the national figure is -0.55. Our disadvantaged students make more progress than their non- disadvantaged peers nationally.
In 2024 CHHS has once again bucked the national trend with 70% of all A Level grades at A*, A or B, a further increase on last years incredible results. A fantastic 43 (30% of the cohort) received 3 or more A* and A grades, with a fabulous five achieving all A*s. In addition, 42% of students achieved at least AAB in facilitating subjects, and fifteen students gained competitive places either to study at Oxford or Cambridge, or to read Dentistry or Medicine at university.
We are delighted that CHHS is regularly named as one of the UK’s top-performing schools in The Sunday Times annual Parent Power Surveys and this year, we were awarded ‘Northwest Comprehensive School of the Year 2024’. We are also extremely proud to have been selected as one of the first schools in England to become a lead Language Hub in the governments £15 million languages reboot. The aim of the network is to spread best practice in languages teaching to other schools and boost exam entries. The offer will give students aged 14-18 the opportunity to study German, Spanish and French through to Key Stage 5.
CHHS became an 11-18 school in September 2013, with approximately 1700 students on roll. Our dedicated Sixth Form Centre opened in September 2014. We are the founder school of a Multi-Academy Trust (MAT) with an outstanding academic record.
CHHS has a strong commitment to continued professional development of all staff. The professional learning opportunities in school and beyond enable staff to engage in various internal communities of professional development. There is support given to staff who are undertaking ECT, Masters, CTeach and NPQ programmes. Many of our staff have also joined other external subject networks and professional development, such as Doctor of Education programmes.

In the 2022 Progress 8 Headline measure, CHHS came in the top 20% of schools nationally with a figure of +0.5, compared to the national figure -0.03. Overall, 85% of our students were awarded a grade 4 or higher in English and Maths, and 67% a grade 5 or higher. Plus, an impressive 44% of all grades were at 7-9 and 96 students achieved 5 or more grades at 7+.

In 2022, 87% of students progressed to university with 65% studying at one of the prestigious Russell group universities. 78% of students went to their first choice university. In addition, 5 students have taken up Degree Apprenticeships.
