Teacher of Science job summary

Work where it matters most, achieve what matters more

Be part of a team where passion meets purpose, as we work together where the challenge is greatest to change the lives and build the futures of children and young people.

Do you love Chemistry and want to share that spark with young people? We’re looking for an enthusiastic, skilled and ambitious Teacher of Science to join our friendly team after May half term 2027 - or at the end of your ECT course. Whether you’re just starting out or are already an experienced teacher, we’d love to hear from you. We’ll give you the professional development and support you need to grow your career with us at Ormiston Sudbury Academy.

As our Teacher of Science, ideally you will have a specialism in Chemistry. We’d love to hear from you if you’re an excellent classroom practitioner - or well on your way to becoming one - who is passionate about Science and ambitious for all students. You’ll bring a high level of professionalism, the ability to inspire young people and excellent interpersonal skills as a committed team player.

Our science department aims to inspire students to understand the world they live in through learning. You’ll be joining a supportive team, delivering a rich, well-resourced curriculum, and working alongside colleagues who are ambitious for our students and passionate about deep learning.

About the Academy

Ormiston Sudbury Academy is an 11-16 school with around 700 students, and we’re passionate about the education, care and development of every one of them. We support and challenge our students to find and fulfil their academic potential, and we want every student to leave with the best qualifications they can achieve. Pastoral care is a real strength here - the kindness and respect our staff model every day are values our students carry with them. We’re committed to equality of opportunity for all, and we’re always looking to improve - working not just harder, but smarter, as individuals and together.

It’s an exciting time to join us. Our staff work together to improve outcomes for students and keep developing as professionals - and in spring 2028 we’ll be moving into a brand-new school building.

What we can offer you

  • a happy, supportive place to work, with a real sense of community and high expectations of staff and students alike.
  • an atmosphere of mutual support and co-operation, with access to superb professional development and promotion opportunities.
  • a range of CPD opportunities, inside and outside the classroom, to develop your pedagogy and your career.
  • evidence-informed teaching and learning strategies and a consistent approach to behaviour, so learning isn’t disrupted.
  • opportunities to collaborate with colleagues across Ormiston Academies Trust.
  • a range of staff benefits, including discounts at major retailers through Vivup, a contributory pension scheme and a staff advice and counselling service.

Why work for Ormiston Academies Trust?

Our vision is to create a school system where every child thrives, regardless of background. Our people are at the heart of our approach - they are our greatest asset.

We exist to provide the best learning opportunities every day, in every school for every child. It is the people and teams in our Trust who make this a reality and ensure we have the greatest impact. If you join us at Ormiston, whatever your role, you can be sure of a role with purpose and meaning.

Ormiston, where every member of staff enjoys…

  • The opportunity to build on the legacy of those who came before - being part of one of the longest standing Trusts, created with the sole purpose of enabling children and young people to thrive
  • Working for a Trust nationally recognised for its impact on disadvantaged children - a rewarding, stimulating career where staff are challenged to be the best they can be, for the pupils we are proud to serve
  • Being part of a team and community where you belong - receiving bespoke and holistic support from a well-resourced and ambitious network of experts and professionals that work at the heart of communities
  • A supportive environment to grow your career - an extensive professional development programme, alongside flexible working arrangements and generous benefits
