What skills and experience we're looking for

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and inspirational science practitioner to join our dynamic and hugely successful school

Kirkburton Middle School is a thriving, over-subscribed and truly unique school which caters for pupils between the ages of 10 and 13. Teachers in our school can really teach as pupils have outstanding behaviours and a zest for learning. We encourage our staff to take risks and enjoy their teaching as we believe this leads to strong relationships and exceptional progress.

You will be joining our friendly and forward-thinking school at a very exciting time; a school that genuinely values the well-being of all and one that is committed to supporting your ongoing professional development.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone to develop a strong understanding of the journey from KS2 to KS3 and beyond, working alongside experienced primary, middle and secondary teachers.

You will:

  • Be a highly effective classroom teacher
  • Be organised and committed
  • Have a strong moral purpose which puts pupils at the centre of everything
  • Believe in high achievement for all
  • Be committed to the extra-curricular life of the school

What the school offers its staff

  • The opportunity to work in a very special school; one which is forward thinking, dedicated to the improving the lives of all children and continuously seeks to be the best it can possibly be
  • Highly motivated pupils who are eager to learn, engage in lessons and who love science and learning about the world around them
  • A school that doesn’t do fads or gimmicks; one which puts teacher workload and wellbeing at the centre of every decision we make
  • A commitment to your future development through a well-structured CPD programme
  • The chance to work as part of a small multi-academy trust who are relentless in their drive to deliver the best learning experiences to all
  • As an employer we are committed to promoting and protecting the physical and mental health of all our staff. All employees in the Trust have access to a mental health and wellbeing service provided by Group Buy Scheme. The service provides counselling, medical and wellbeing support.

Commitment to safeguarding

This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Safeguarding cuts through everything we do at school and the safety of our pupils is our top priority. There is a designated senior member of the Leadership Team who is responsible for referring and monitoring any child protection concerns. All members of staff will receive training in line with our child protection and other related policies.

KMS provides a welcoming and secure environment in which pupils enter as young children and leave as confident young adults, each developing at the rate that is right for them. We specialise in supporting, nurturing and guiding young children through this time in their lives – emotionally, socially and academically – in order that they are able to achieve well and feel safe.
We believe strongly in the importance of the principle of inclusion, the development of the whole child and meeting the needs of the individual. To this end we provide a broad and balanced curriculum together with an extensive range of enrichment and extra-curricular activities.
