Teacher of Science (Physics Specialism) job summary

Teacher of Science (Physics Specialism)

Barr Beacon School, Old Hall Lane, Walsall, WS9 0RF

Salary: MPS (ECTs Welcome)

Start Date: Easter 2026 or earlier

“Success is a science; if you have the right conditions, you get the result.” So said Oscar Wilde and we say the same.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Teacher of Science, specialising in Physics, who is committed to inspiring curiosity and a lifelong passion for science in our pupils.

Whether you are beginning your career as an ECT or you have been teaching science for decades, to really inspire the next generation you need an environment with the right conditions. You need an environment where pupils genuinely want to learn. An environment in which your colleagues are as geeky about your subject as you are.

With the highest expectations of pupils’ behaviour and effort, we don’t accept excuses. Our teachers work very hard but they only ever do work which is going to make a difference for our pupils.

Your skills will include:

Being a good classroom practitioner with a strong understanding of how children learn;

Having up to date subject and pedagogical knowledge;

Possessing a passion to make a difference in pupils’ lives and showing a commitment to school improvement.

About us:

Barr Beacon School has a shared belief that no child should fail and our high standards and expectations ensure our pupils strive for success. As a highly successful school, we have a commitment to exceptional teaching to provide the best possible education for our students. We are committed to fostering a culture that values the health and well-being of all employees at Matrix Academy Trust. We are proud to offer a comprehensive well-being package to all employees, including access to 24/7 online GP, physiotherapy services and counselling services. We also offer all employees annual health checks which includes the flu jab, BMI checks and a general discussion with a qualified Nurse.

Ofsted report

The word ‘outstanding’ appears a lot in advertisements for teachers – but at Barr Beacon School, it means more. With over 1000 requests for the 252 places available in Year 7 this September, parents would certainly agree. When Ofsted last visited, they merely confirmed what we already knew.

How have we achieved all of this?

Quite simply, we employ teachers who are as ambitious, passionate and dedicated as we are. These amazing people work hard – in fact they work very hard – to ensure that our pupils make the best progress they possibly can.

Whether they are the most able or or the least able, the most advantaged or the least advantaged, every child deserves nothing less than the very best teaching.

Not surprisingly, there’s a real buzz about the place. If you would like to be part of it – and teach children who genuinely want to learn – we would love to hear from you.
