The successful candidate will have a high standard of teaching and learning and have the ability to think creatively and strategically.
If you are a well-qualified, ambitious and inspirational teacher who can demonstrate a real passion for Science, with commitment to make a difference to the lives of our students by raising standards, achievements and expectations, then we would welcome your application.
Excellent curriculum knowledge and an awareness of the recent recommendations to improve pedagogy in Science education is essential. They must possess the ability to enthuse and inspire students by sharing their passion for the Sciences. A specialism in Physics or Chemistry is desirable but not essential.
What the school offers its staff
At KS3, we follow schemes of learning written in-house to meet the needs of the QCA National Curriculum. KS3 students finish the curriculum at the end of the autumn term in Year 9 and start their GCSE Science course at the start of the spring term.
The KS4 curriculum follows the new AQA GCSE courses. Combined Science students follow the AQA Trilogy course, while three separate AQA Sciences are offered as an option for all students who are interested and might wish to pursue a career in the Sciences.
All Science teachers are expected to be able to teach across the specialisms up to GCSE, although the Separate Science GCSEs are taught by subject specialists.
Post 16 classes are small and enthusiastic and have historically achieved very well in their exams. A Level Biology, Chemistry and Physics all follow the AQA specifications and we also offer BTEC Science for students who might want to follow a more vocational pathway.
The Science department has strong links with the Sidmouth Science Festival and works collaboratively to involve our students with numerous exciting opportunities in and outside the classroom.
