Teacher of Social Science job summary

The Trustees are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed Social Science teacher to join our hardworking, highly experienced and supportive Sixth Form Team. The ability to teach Psychology is essential and the ability to teach other subjects within the Social Science Department would be extremely advantageous. Oaklands is a Catholic Academy taking in boys and girls from 11-18, which has been established by the Diocese of Portsmouth for the education of Catholic children who live within the designated parish catchment area allocated to the school. In addition, we also take in a number of children from other Christian denominations whose parents have specifically requested a catholic education at the School. The school has over 1,300 students on roll, including a Sixth Form College of over 250 students. It is a well-established comprehensive school, which is well supported by parents and highly respected in the community. The Section 48 Validation in March 2019 rated Oaklands as an outstanding Catholic school in all areas. The successful candidate will be an outstanding teacher who can demonstrate exceptional classroom practice that reflects contemporary and traditional thinking in teaching and learning. In addition to the delivery of Social Science, the successful candidate must have relevant and up to date knowledge in relation to working with and protecting children and young people. All staff at Oaklands are expected to display a commitment to the protection and safeguarding of children and young people. We will ensure that all our recruitment and selection practices reflect this commitment. All successful candidates will be subject to Disclosure and Barring Service checks along with other relevant employment checks.
