(This post is advertised as a full time post, however, if you are interested in a part time role, please indicate this on your application.)

The successful candidate will work within our highly successful Technology Department. This post is advertised as we are expanding our Technology team. The popularity and success of the subjects delivered by this team over the last 2 years means that we now need to appoint another teacher to meet the demand for places in KS4 classes. It is essential that the successful candidate has a wide knowledge and proven experience in teaching Technology at KS4 and KS3, and is also willing to teach a small amount of KS3 lessons in either Food or Computing. All the lessons in these subjects are fully planned and resourced with a comprehensive scheme of work, lesson slides which can be adapted for specific classes and lesson resources such as knowledge organisers. The successful candidate must demonstrate a willingness to develop their teaching practice as we continue to work collaboratively to meet the needs of all our learners.

This is an exciting time for the successful candidate to join Shevington High School. The Technology department is very well resourced with 2 specialist Technology rooms fitted out with specialist machinery and equipment including laser cutters, 3D printers, small wood turning lathe, and flame fast casting unit. The department also has its own Computer room to enable the use of CADCAM software and digital design work. Our Hospitality and Catering teaching area is being fully refurbished over the summer. Class sizes in Technology are reduced to no more than 24 pupils to ensure that students can be safely monitored and supported. The department has 2 technicians working across the food and technology areas. The departments also provides activities for pupils in our feeder primary schools as part of our transition and primary liaison programme.

The successful candidate would be expected to play a vital role in providing opportunities for our learners to develop their knowledge and passion for Technology. This will include planning and delivering high quality lessons, facilitating and supporting trips and taking advantage of extra-curricular opportunities that both support and enrich the lives of our students here at Shevington.

The school non-negotiables have been at the forefront of our development in recent years. All Technology lessons have fully implemented each of the elements and we would expect the successful candidate to show a knowledge of these in their interview lesson as well relevant pedagogical understanding in their interview.

About the School

Shevington High School is a popular 11-16 community school located in the village of Shevington. We are 3 miles from Wigan town centre and mere minutes from the M6 motorway. The school is smaller than the average size secondary school. We have 178 students in all years and are currently oversubscribed with a waiting list in Year 7.

Shevington is a thriving and vibrant school. We work incredibly hard as a team to support pupils to make excellent progress in their learning from their varied starting points on entry. The school has celebrated very good examination results over recent years and we pride ourselves on our constant drive for improvement.

We pride ourselves at Shevington in that we put the student at the centre of learning through the delivery of high quality teaching which enables all of our pupils to learn effectively. The school has a clear and well-articulated vision and intent for the curriculum and pedagogical approach in school, grounded on current research and methodologies nationally and internationally. This is drawn from the work we have been doing over the last 9 years on Student Agency in Learning in conjunction with Kunskapsskolan Schools (Sweden) for which we have been recognised as a KED inspired school.

The school has a robust teaching and learning strategy incorporating digital devices and using Google Classroom to enhance student learning. A distinct part of student life at Shevington High School is coaching. We see coaching as the key to personalised learning and putting students at the centre of their learning. Students attend coaching in groups of 4-5 students once a week. In the coaching session the students are encouraged to set weekly learning goals and reflect on progress made.
