Job Title: Teacher of the Deaf

If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you!

Bentley West Primary School, located in the heart of the community, is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic member to join our team as a Teacher of the Deaf (within our Deaf Resource Provision). This role is integral to our school's mission of providing an inclusive learning environment for all children.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Promote and support the educational development of deaf and hearing impaired children across the school; fostering an inclusive learning environment.
  • Oversee the Deaf Resource Provision (DRP)
  • Lead and support pupil reviews
  • Monitor teaching and learning effectiveness for children attending the resource base, ensuring optimal use of resources and alignment with children’s needs. Regularly assessing and adjusting as needed to maximise outcomes.
  • The Teacher of the Deaf (ToD) will work closely with children, families and colleagues to ensure that children’s academic, social and emotional needs are met.
  • Take responsibility for raising children’s attainment, achievement and progress within Deaf Resource Provision
  • Assist in the transition process for children transferring within school (between year groups) or moving school through key stages, facilitating a smooth progression and ensuring continuity in support
  • Support the development of DRP based staff and class/subject teachers by modelling best practices in deaf awareness, offering training and coaching to build inclusive teaching skills.
  • Communicate effectively with all children using methods consistent with child’s choice, parents preferences and the school.
  • Advise on the use of specialist equipment; including hearing aids, radio aids, cochlear implants and sound field systems, ensuring that both staff and children have the necessary skills and training. Oversee the routine maintenance of this equipment to ensure it remains in optimal working condition.
  • Play an active role in the school community.
  • Uphold the school’s Code of Conduct, maintain high standards of professional behaviour and presentation.
