What skills and experience we're looking for
Keighley College are looking for an enthusiastic and inspiring PHSCE & Tutorial Teacher to join our Study Programmes department and play a key role in developing confident, resilient and work-ready young people.
This is an exciting opportunity to lead engaging tutorial and personal development sessions that go beyond the classroom, helping students develop the knowledge, behaviours and life skills they need to succeed in education, employment and wider society.
Working with students across our 16–19 Study Programmes, you will deliver a high-quality PHSCE and tutorial curriculum covering areas including personal development, relationships and wellbeing, safeguarding, healthy lifestyles, equality and diversity, British values, careers, employability, financial awareness and preparation for adulthood.
You will create sessions that are relevant, challenging and engaging, responding to the needs of our students and the communities they live in. You will encourage discussion, challenge misconceptions and provide a safe environment where students can explore important issues and develop their confidence and independence.
Working closely with curriculum teams, pastoral colleagues, safeguarding, careers and external partners, you will ensure that tutorial is an integral part of each student’s Study Programme and contributes directly to their attendance, engagement, progression and preparation for their next steps.

What You Will Do
- Plan and deliver engaging, relevant and inclusive PHSCE and tutorial sessions to students across Study Programmes.
- Deliver key themes including safeguarding, healthy relationships, wellbeing, equality and diversity, British values, financial awareness, online safety and preparation for adulthood.
- Create opportunities for students to discuss and explore real-world issues in a safe, respectful and appropriately challenging environment.
- Support students to develop their confidence, resilience, independence, communication and decision-making skills.
- Embed careers, employability and workplace behaviours, helping students understand the skills and attitudes employers value.
- Adapt teaching to meet a wide range of starting points, including students with SEND/High Needs and those who may face barriers to learning or participation.
- Use assessment, student voice and participation to understand the impact of the tutorial curriculum and continually improve delivery.
- Work closely with curriculum teachers, pastoral teams, safeguarding, careers and support colleagues to provide a joined-up student experience.
- Identify concerns relating to students safeguarding, wellbeing, engagement or progress and ensure these are communicated and escalated appropriately.
- Contribute to enrichment, themed events, workshops and wider activities that make the Study Programme experience engaging, ambitious and memorable.

You will be a positive, engaging and confident teacher who is passionate about helping young people develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours they need for life beyond college.
You will:
- Be an enthusiastic and engaging teacher who can bring PHSCE and tutorial topics to life.
- Have the confidence to facilitate discussions around sensitive, challenging and topical issues.
- Understand the importance of safeguarding, inclusion, equality, diversity and British values within Further Education.
- Be able to build strong, professional relationships with young people from a wide range of backgrounds and starting points.
- Understand the barriers some young people face and be able to challenge, motivate and inspire them.
- Be creative in your approach, using real-life scenarios, debate, digital resources and external speakers to make learning meaningful.
- Have high expectations for attendance, behaviour, participation and personal development.
- Be able to adapt teaching to support learners with SEND/High Needs and differing levels of confidence and ability.
- Work collaboratively with curriculum, pastoral, safeguarding, careers and support teams.
- Be organised, reflective and committed to continually improving the quality and impact of the student experience.
