What skills and experience we're looking for
Leeds City College are recruiting for a Teacher of Uniformed Public Services to join our team, who can deliver inspiring sessions to our learners to help them prepare for a career in their chosen uniformed service.
We are looking for someone with career experience working in Uniformed Public Services, this could be within the Armed Forces or Emergency Services including Police and Fire Services, who can share their experience and skills with our learners to help them succeed in their chosen career.
You do not need a teaching qualification but ideally you will have previous experience in supporting learners and/or young people. For the right candidate we will fully support you in gaining your teaching qualification.
The School of Public Services at Leeds City College supports over 400 students on courses from Level 1 to Level 3, preparing them for careers within the emergency services and armed forces and many more sectors.
We don’t just teach in classrooms – our students learn self-discipline, communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills through practical experience.
What You Will Do
We are looking for someone with the passion and skills to deliver topics such as:
Core responsibilities include:
- Develop learners to make positive progress towards their career goals whilst developing skills and qualities that ensure they have successful outcomes.
- Plan, prepare and develop schemes of work, session plans, teaching and learning resources, and learning and assessment plans.
- Deliver inspiring sessions across the curriculum using a wide range of teaching methods for identified modules.
- Deliver and assess essential knowledge and understanding to learners.
- Be responsible for recording student progress -Adapt curriculum delivery methods to maximise their effectiveness, including through the use of technology.
- Ability to inspire and motivate learners to achieve their optimum.
- A passion for subjects that include topics relating to emergency services and the armed forces.
- Relevant up-to-date subject knowledge from working in the services or recent delivery in the Further Education or school sector.
- Recent teaching delivery demonstrates active learning and differentiated teaching styles in any setting.
- Ability to be adaptable and flexible towards the requirements of different learner needs.
