Broomfield SILC is a generic special school for pupils aged 2 to 19 years with 3 sites: our main site and 2 partnership sites at Windmill Primary and Rodillian Secondary. The SILC is based in the South of Leeds and caters for a wide range of needs from moderate learning difficulties; severe learning difficulties; complex and multiple learning needs; Autism and social and emotional and mental health needs. Some students have additional needs – physical; medical; speech and language; visual, hearing or sensory impairment. We are a very popular choice for parents and carers and currently have 228 pupils on roll.

Broomfield secured a ‘Good’ Ofsted in March 2023 where inspectors commented that leaders have ‘high ambitions’ and ‘high aspirations for all pupils’ and that ‘staff are proud to work in our school’. I am very proud of our school community where staff are committed to supporting young people to fulfil their potential and prepare them fully for their future, particularly focusing on communication, independence, and emotional regulation.

We are looking for a Subject Leader who has the commitment, passion and resilience to make a difference to young peoples’ lives by developing their subject to ensure the best outcomes for our learners.

Previous experience of leading a subject is not essential but we are seeking candidates who want to take the next step in their career and contribute to further develop the curriculum offer for our learners in conjunction with the extended leadership team.

The successful candidate could teach in any of our Teaching and Learning groups, depending on their experience and expertise.

The successful candidate will have the following qualities:

  • The ability to lead and manage a subject effectively to ensure excellent outcomes for all learners across school.
  • Experience of effective curriculum planning to ensure inspirational teaching, learning, assessment and behaviour management strategies to ensure learning is engaging and inclusive.
  • Knowledge and understanding of working with pupils with ASC, ADHD and complex communication needs.
  • Experience and skills of teaching pupils with a broad range of Special Educational Needs to secure excellent outcomes
  • The ability to effectively quality assure provision and provide reports and action plans to further develop identified areas
  • Excellent communication, organisation and interpersonal skills and an ability to work collaboratively with all stakeholders
  • High expectations of yourself and others; leading by example to develop a culture of professional learning
  • Experience of effective deployment of staffing and resources
  • Experience of leading professional development and supporting and challenging staff teams
  • A commitment to making contributions to the full life of the school
