Teaching and Learning Assistant - Secondary Special school job summary
Corley Academy is a secondary special school for children with complex communication and interaction difficulties. A significant number of students have an autism diagnosis. Students bring a range of abilities and aspirations, special educational needs, vulnerabilities, challenges and behaviours. Student attainment covers the full National Curriculum and GCSE/vocational range.
We are looking to appoint a calm, creative, enthusiastic and hard-working individuals, with a positive mind-set, who are prepared to contribute fully to all aspects of school life and work as part of a dedicated team to enhance our students’ learning and personal development.
You may be required to be a Co-Pastoral Mentor alongside a member of our Teaching staff
The successful candidate will demonstrate high standards of literacy in reading, writing and spoken language and will be skilled in utilising this knowledge to engage, support and develop the literacy of students up to GCSE level.
Experience of working in a special school setting is not essential and we welcome applications from candidates with experience in special, primary or secondary schools. However, experience of, or the ability to demonstrate an understanding of the needs of students with Special Education Needs and the role you pay within that, is essential.
The post is 35 hours per week, term time only including training days, (39 weeks). The working hours are -
Monday 8.30 - 4.15 (Weekly briefing 8.30 - 8.45) Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 8.45 - 4.30 (Thursday staff training 3.30 - 4.30) Friday 8.45 - 3.15
Induction and training will be provided to all new staff. We are very proud of our ability to support and encourage our Teaching and Learning Assistants in their professional development, three of our teachers started their professional journey with us as Teaching Assistants.

Please note a car and driving licence are not essential for this position, however the school is not on a regular bus route.
