What skills and experience we're looking for

  • Level 4+ GCSE in Math’s and English (or C+)
  • Level 2 diploma in a relevant area
  • Knowledge of SEND, in particular: communication and Interaction and be able to support development in this area.
  • Be familiar with Social stories and how these are used to support interactions.
  • Be familiar with the PACE Approach.
  • Understand the importance of positive behaviour management
  • Experience of delivering lessons to small groups of children and individuals with a range of needs.
  • Safeguarding training
  • First Aid

SEN Teaching Assistant: 35 hours per week/38 weeks per year. Grade 5 Permanent

Are you passionate about nurturing young minds and making a positive impact on children's lives? If so, Underwood West Academy has an exciting opportunity for you!

We are looking for a caring, dedicated and enthusiastic SEN teaching assistant to support pupils with additional needs. You’ll play a vital role in helping children thrive academically and emotionally, working closely with class teachers, SENCO and outside agencies.

The successful candidate will work with colleagues in a small class setting supporting and create a stimulating, safe and caring teaching and learning environment for pupils with a range of additional needs.

Key responsibilities:

  • To provide a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care for children place in the classroom.
  • To work as part of a team, providing an enabling environment in which all individual children can play, develop and learn.
  • To build and maintain strong partnerships, working with parents to ensure their child/children needs are met.
  • Working under the guidance of the teacher, the successful post-holder will also be responsible for key responsibilities as described in the Job Description provided.
