What skills and experience we're looking for
Lavington School is seeking to appoint an energetic and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join their team. As a member of staff within our Trust, you will contribute to a collaborative working environment and play a key role in supporting the learning and development of all pupils.
This role supports the class teacher in delivering the National Curriculum by assisting with lesson activities, adapting instructions, and helping pupils to access learning effectively. It involves providing targeted support to individuals and groups to develop key skills such as reading, writing, communication, and concentration, while promoting inclusion, positive behaviour, and children’s self-esteem through encouragement and consistent reinforcement of school expectations. The Teaching Assistant also supports pupils with additional needs by contributing to individual provision plans, assisting with personal care where required, and liaising with teachers and external professionals. The role includes monitoring progress by providing feedback to teachers, helping maintain records, and supporting assessment and learning activities. In addition, the postholder helps create a safe and effective learning environment by preparing resources, maintaining classrooms, and adhering to safeguarding, health, and safety policies. Strong communication and teamwork are essential, particularly in building positive relationships with pupils, colleagues, parents, and external agencies. Lavington School is a mixed comprehensive school and currently has 965 students on roll, aged 11 to 18. It is situated on the western edge of the village of Market Lavington, about six miles south of Devizes, in the heart of rural Wiltshire. Numbers on roll have grown over the years with the school being over-subscribed. In 2018 the school opened its Sixth Form as a satellite centre of Devizes School.
