The Governors are seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join our staff team initially as a 1:1 support for children with SEN. This is a wonderful opportunity to contribute to the educational journey of our children in a vibrant Preston school. The ideal candidate will be passionate about supporting children’s learning and development.
Although this is advertised as a fixed term position (until end March 2027), we would hope to be able to offer a permanent post at the end of this period, either as a classroom Teaching Assistant or SEN TA. We are looking for individuals with excellent people skills who can nurture and support our children with their learning within the Catholic ethos of our school. Day-to-day of the role under the supervision of the class teacher:
- Support children with special educational needs and disabilities 1:1 either in the classroom or in a suitable setting for their needs, providing tailored academic, social, and emotional support to help them thrive in an inclusive environment.
- Support a child or children overcome barriers to learning, ensuring they can participate fully in school life.
- Work one-on-one, in small groups, or assist in classroom activities, adapting resources and teaching methods to meet individual needs
- Assist the class teacher in preparing and delivering educational activities.
- Provide support to individual students and small groups to help them understand and complete tasks.
- Encourage children’s engagement with the curriculum and foster a positive learning environment.
- Help manage classroom resources and set up for lessons.
- Support the class teacher in managing behaviour and maintaining classroom discipline.
- Participate in school meetings and professional development sessions as required.
Essential Qualifications
NVQ level 2 or above qualification -appropriate to the post (or equivalent experience)
GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent) to grade ‘C’ or above
Essential Experience
Experience of working in an Early Years setting for than three months in a primary school or Early Years environment and/or evidence of working with children with Special Needs
Experience of working in a relevant classroom/service environment
Experience of supporting pupils with diverse needs
Candidates must have GCSE Maths and English grade C or above (or equivalent). Please do not submit an application if you do not have these qualifications. You would need to be able to provide your qualification certificates at interview. Please note the advertised salary will be pro rata to reflect the weekly hours (27.9) and term time working arrangement. The role will be for 38 working weeks (term time) plus 5 inset days. Hours of work would be 8.40am to 3.00pm with a lunch break.
