Salary: NJC Grade C: £25,989 - £26,403 FTE (This will be paid pro-rata to reflect hours and weeks worked)

Working Pattern: This is a permanent position working 20 hours per week, 39 weeks per year. Hours will be carried out Monday to Friday over the lunchtime period. However, for the right candidate, flexibility can be offered with start and finish times (for example, a later start or earlier finish to the school day).

Bickleigh-on-Exe C of E Primary School are seeking a flexible and adaptable individual who is willing to undertake a varied role across the school. This may include supporting specific pupils with SEND needs, providing general classroom support, supervising pupils at playtime/lunchtime, and, following appropriate training, delivering small-group support in early reading and writing (Read Write Inc. phonics).

We welcome applications from candidates who may not have previously worked in a school but who can demonstrate relevant experience working with children or in a supportive role.

About the Role

Working under the guidance of teaching and senior staff, you will support learning in both the classroom and small‑group settings.

Your key responsibilities will include:

Supporting pupils’ welfare and personal care, including those with SEND

Implementing literacy and numeracy interventions

Assisting with planning cycles and preparing learning resources

Promoting positive behaviour and encouraging pupil independence

You will also assist with supervision during break/lunchtimes and accompany pupils on trips when required.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for someone who can bring compassion and commitment to the role.

Essential qualities include:

Experience working with or caring for children of a relevant age

Knowledge of safeguarding practice and strategies to remove barriers to learning

Strong communication skills, including confidence and fluency in spoken English

Ability to work effectively as part of a team

Ability to relate well to both children and adults

Desirable (but not essential):

Experience supporting pupils with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)

Knowledge of SEN practices and the national curriculum

Additional training in learning strategies such as literacy or numeracy

NVQ Level 2 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent
